Why choose. Virtualize or dual/triple boot to whatever suits your needs at the time. I generally use OSX as my main and use a VM instance of XP for MATLab, OrCAD and MultiSim. I also use a VM instance for Ubuntu just to play around with.
You can easily just dual boot XP for games and Ubuntu for everything else, and that would be my recommendation. Hard drive space is a dime a dozen (megs); utilize it.
