Best Online DVD Rental

Hi, I'm looking into joining up with an online DVD rental company. Any opinions appreciated on which are the best value for money, eg. number of discs allowed at one time, cost etc.

Cheers.

I have tried several and there are problems with all of them:-

1. Most split multiple disc sets up so be sure you order the one with the film on it (Blockbuster give you all the discs unless it's a multi film pack)

2. You can wait ages for your top choice. I have given up sometimes and resorted to my local Blockbuster.

3. If, like me, your taste is for foreign, low budget or documentary then not everyone has all the titles (Amazon is best).

4.LoveFilm is actually behind a few - I'm currently with them via FilmFourDVD.com

Just my view ...

There are a number of DVD rental companies around, some of them better than others. Many of them now offer an introductory free trial, so can try a few different providers before deciding which of them you would like to sign up with as a paying member.

My advice would be to take advantage of at least 3 or 4 free trials before signing up with any of them; even if you are really impressed with one of them, you may as well get some free rentals out of the other companies first.

I'm with Amazon, mainly because as a retailer they have always been really, really reliable and helpful.

I've rented mainly tv series with them so far and they've always come in order and very promptly. The turnaround is usually 2/3 days max. You also get 10% off dvRAB that you buy with them.

They may not be the best value in terms of number of dvRAB you recieve but they are reliable.

Last month I cancelled my account as I was moving house, and was told to return my latest DVD in 15 days. I forgot when it was due and ended up being charged for the dvd. When I emailed them saying that I would return the dvd and, as I was in my new house, wanted to re-start my account, they refunded the money immediately. And they were very polite and helpful doing it.

i use screen select and its fantastic!! i have 3 dvRAB at a time for 12.49 a month and as soon as you send one back you get the next on your list within 48 hours of putting it in the postbox! you can also get ps2 and x-box games too so its brilliant! :)

Lovefilm do not own Screenselect.

Though both these companies adopt the same lame throttling policy.

Blockbusters has been the best for me but they do have a problem of sending out low choice titles.

As Mal says, ScreenSelect and LoveFilm are indeed now one and the same company. Unfortunately, they have just announced that they are to both reduce the number of free DVRAB they allow on their free trials.

Currently they offer a 30-day unlimited trial, but as of this Friday 8th September they are both changing their terms to 21-days, with a maximum 6 discs.

They will still be among the most attractive trials around, but obviously not quite so attractive as they are now. For anyone who hasn

I concur! I've been a big fan of the free dvd trial. When I was at uni I just did one trial after another and it was brilliant. (especially as I had 3 different addresses so therefore could sign up with the same company 3 times under 3 different addresses... not supposed to, but shhh)

So just do that for a while!

Also, I've just done a free trial with LoveFilm and it was great. The SAME day they receive your dvRAB back they send out new ones. Some companies its the next day, which is annoying.

AND, when I phoned up to cancel the free trial, they gave me 3 months for the price of 1. So definitely do a free trial and even if you want to continue with the service, phone up and 'cancel' and see what offers they give you... ;-)

Well done you ally pally, get what you can for free in this world!

There is talk that they are going to try and stop this sort of thing, by cross-referencing new applications not only by name and address, but also by credit card details, date of birth etc. to try and spot the same person signing up under a different address.

At the moment I haven't heard of any companies that haven't actually started doing this yet though, so until they do good luck to you!
