Best Of British

fish called wanda, excellent film with brilliant actors
shaun of the dead, didn't expect it to be good but i loved it
monty python, obviously
blackadder, the films were okay but the actual program is brilliant

I agree, was V impressed with Layer cake, clever ending!!

However, I thought 28 days later started well and had a lot of potential, but didnt quite do it for me. Anyone agree?

Excellent choices, but you seem to have missed three great British films:

1. Carry on Camping
2. Confessions of a Window Cleaner
3. Adventures of a Plumber's Mate

Three seminal classics of a by-gone era!!

Long live the saucy sex comedy!! ;)

we keep getting told that british movies are dying, but given that they keep paying the likes of jennifer love hewitt (sp?) bucketloaRAB to star in crap before getting a distribution deal i'm not surprised.

The BFI have a list of their 100 best British movies - I guess it's on their website. The Third Man was top.

There's also an issue over what counts as a British film - films are classed according to the source of the money that made them not the talent - preposterous way of doing it in my opinion. The best British film of all time is Vertigo.

The beauty about this thread is not only sharing opinions with other like-minded British cinema lovers, but also people reminding each other of films they had forgot.

Rita, Sue and Bob Too - very funny film.

There are also quite a few films listed I haven't seen, so I look forward to getting those.

That's one of my favourites too. I love the scene where they get into the bar, and drink those pints down so quickly, and also where the ambulance rolls back down the hill, after all that hard work.
Absolute classic stuff.

Hmm... If the best we have to offer is 'The Third Man' then I'd prefer us not to make movies. Another overblown offering featuring Orson Welles IMHO. Controversial I'm sure ;)

Don't forget 'Scum' - fantastic little film/TV special ;) !
