Best My Little Pony cartoon

I have to admit, I did enjoy the 'Dancing on Air' duet between Firefly and Megan from Rescue from Midnight Castle... a lot.

And RfMC was entertaining, because it was such an odd mix. You had the adorable little fillies, in the same cartoon with hardcore Dungeons & Dragons-inspired stuff with Tirac and the Rainbow of Darkness. What?

The last line before FiM had Sea Ponies. The store I work at's still trying to unload the last of the Sea Pony playsets and remaining few G3 ponies.

On the subject of RFMC, I find it odd that Applejack (And every other pony in that special) only appeared in that one episode, and then were never heard from again. Then the same thing happened with the ponies in the Escape From Katrina special. You'd think at some point Megan would asked what happened to all the ponies from her last visit.

I am going to say Friendship is Magic even though I have only seen two episodes. I used the love My Little Pony Tales when I was in preschool but it just doesn't hold up and I hardly remember anything about the original series.

I think calling it a self parody is pretty fair. Faust has clearly designed the show to address the general criticisms of My Little Pony, that it's a super safe sickeningly sweet show with no conflict beyond 'Oh no, we don't have enough cherries for every cupcake!". It's still intended to get kids into a franchise but is also clearly saying that kids aren't stupid and that Hasbro should have done this a while ago, not just bringing their A game to brands like Transformers.

I was saying that was the common held conception, not that it was necessarily true. Though it certainly has been for recent iterations.

To be fair, though, the original series did have one of those type of plotlines towards the end of the run... then promptly turned it on it's ear.

The Baby Ponies find out that there's no ice cream for the newborn twins to eat, which keeps them from fussing. This then leads into the baby ponies having to prevent a literal war between feuding ice cream vendors.

I actually wouldn't mind if Faust and the writers went back and took some of TOS plots and reworked them for the modern day.

I was thinking the same thing. First of all if they part of the G4 line, they should bring back the Sea Ponies and do a cover of the Sea Ponies song.

I think one plot that could be redone is "Through The Door" plot. Instead of fairy tale and mythological characters coming to their world, it should be the other way around with the ponies because of one of Twilight's spells being transferred into a world of fairy tale and mytholoigical characters. I think that plot would work great with this cast especially with the lead character being a book worm.

I'd like to see them redo 'Return of Tambelon', but as an actual feature length DTV. I always thought that that arc would have made a far better My Little Pony feature film than the one that got released, simply because of how dark it was, especially compared to the original pilot.

I would love that too, but i dont think it's likely to happen since Faust never actually liked the original series (she was a fan of the toys, not the show, which might have something to do with the fact that she was already 12 years old when the show premiered). If only someone a little younger who actually watched the G1 cartoon as a small child could get aboard the writing team for Friendship is Magic... Then maybe we would get to see characters like Tirac, the Smooze and those evil flower-creatures again.

It'd be amusing to see Bright Lights re-imagined FiM-style.

My one question would be who they'd model the new Knightshade on. I have to admit, the mental image of a Lady Gaga pony is rather funny. Even more hilarious would be if each time a scene cuts, she's wearing a different bizarre outfit.

Even if Faust were to redo any of the G1 plots, she'd have to do it without Megan, Danny, Molly, the Moochick or any of the other previous MLP characters, as she could only secure the rights to use Appljack and Spike from the original series. I doubt that Hasbro would want FiM to tackle a story as dark as "Rescue from Midnight Castle" anyway.

I'd just settle for Princess Luna making another appearance; it would be interesting to see what she's been up to since getting rehabilitated, assuming that Luna hasn't been retconned out of existence like the Elements of Harmony, which haven't been mentioned since the pilot.

Zecora seems like she'd made a pretty suitable replacement for the Moochik if the plot ever called for it. As for Megan, Molly, and Danny... I'd actually prefer for Faust and the FiM crew to keep the humans out of the show.

If Hasbro ever pitched a live action MLP movie, I can see them bringing the human kids into it, but I think as far as animation goes, the human characters need to stay retired, at least for this particular show.

However, if another series comes along a few years down the line and keep the quality of FiM, I'd love to see Danny (or whatever name they'll come up for him) return, if only for them to lampshade the fact that guys are into watching this series.

I think Twilight is perfect to fill in for Megan in any old storylines. They are both smart book worms, the voice of reason, and Twilight is still kind of a newcomer to Ponyville, so she is sort of an outsider to the others like the human kids from the original series.

And if you need someone to fill the Molly role, any of the Cutie Mark Crusaders can do that.
