Best Musical Ever?

I always cringe at least once watching most musicals, the only one that has never made me cringe is Nightmare Before Christmas, I can watch this musical over and over again, adore it. It's my best ever musical.

I adored Mamma Mia! but I still cringed during certain scenes lol.

I love musicals so much, my favourite is probably a toss up between Chicago and Grease. I can pretty much recite them word for word :o

Hairspray was awesome as well but I actually prefer the original non-musical version with Ricki Lake, camp cinema at its best :D

I adore musicals.:)

My favourites though..to narrow it down just a little bit..:p

Phantom of the Opera
Evita
Mamma Mia!
My Fair Lady
The Producers
Mary Poppins
Doctor Dolittle

And basically every animated Disney musical ever made. Especially The Lion King and Pocahontas.:)

I love most musicals though. There are some which are downright cringeworthy, but in general they're my favourite movies.:D

My top three would be:

Meet Me In St Louis (for "The Trolley Song" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" alone)
Hello Dolly (for "Goodbye Dearie")
Little Shop Of Horrors (for "The Dentist Song", the camp plant and Ellen Greene as Audrey).

Annie ~ fond memories of my childhood. It was the first musical I ever saw (and my 2nd trip to the cinema)

Rocky Horror Picture Show ~ just because!

The King And I ~ Yul Brynner in tights :o :o :o

Top Five (no particular order)
Grease
Sound of Music
Moulin Rouge
South Park: Bigger Longer etc
Hairspray

Worst 5
Mamma Mia (too camp)
Fiddler on the Roof (too dull)
The Producers (too unimaginative)
Annie (1982) (butchered the show)
Grease 2 (where do I start?)

The Blues Brothers and The Committments for me.

As for mary Poppins - KILL IT (evile, evil thing).

Interesting (wekk, maybe) fact.

Watching "Fiddler On The Roof" (very good btw) earlier this year I observed that the cast contained both Paul (Michael) Glaser and Roger Lloyd-Pack.

The cop show that should have been:

Starsky and Trigger!

Gigi - perfect cast, great songs, beautifully shot, charming story.

Funny Girl

Oklahoma

The Sound of Music

(Not a musical per se, but I really loved the way the music was handled in "That Thing You Do." Seemed very realistic for the time period and made you believe that that band could have actually existed.)

"The Gang's All Here". Carmen Miranda in her highest tutti-fruitt hat ever, whilst dozens of Berkeley girls do a kaleidoscopic synchronised giant inflatable-banana waving routine. All rendered in densely saturated Crayola colour.
