Best Movie Opening

The opening of This Is Cinerama at the Casino in Soho was spectacular.
From a small normal cinema screen to the triple screen roller coaster sequence had the audience screaming. Back in the 50's that was knockout!

Die Hard: With a Vengeance has to be my choice.

(Lovin Spoonful - Summer In The City)

Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city.
.
.
.
And babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city
.
.
Booooooooooooooooooom!

The Matrix Reloaded. After the brilliant first film, everyone was expecting an amazing sequel, and it started off like that. Then we went to Zion and it kind of collapsed for a bit then got its act back for the rest of the film.

Star Wars, yeeeeeahh!
:)

Honourable mention 'The Blues Brothers'

'Aliens' with the military music. Ah! The cinema was like "Oh this is gonna be gooooooood!"

Likewise 'Predator'

And er... 'Basic Instinct' ;)

I agree with most of the above posts, but have to say I think Swordfish gives 'em a bit of a run.

Travolta lulls you in with his little speech, seems like a friendly discussion over a drink, then 2 mins later that bullet-time style shot of the hostage exploding!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome, esp. with a good surround system & sub :D

*Gladiator - has a very good begining (the battle in Germania)
*Saving private Ryan - the best bit of the film, along with the end, the rest is flag waving for me.
*Slapshot - is very funny, with the goaltender trying to explain in broken English what the penalties ae.

I would vote for serenity if only they had begun the film with the scene on the ship rather than with
The escape

Yeah I saw it and at first wondered why everyone thought it was such a rubbish film. Funnily enough, it's about as soon as Morgan Freeman shows up that it gets really stupid and ridiculous, can't believe I even just said that!

I love the star wars episode 3 opener. Seeing the bright sunlight and the star destroyer and then the continuous shot of Obi-Wan and Anakin's ships flying through the battlefield is genious and very much based on ep4.

Oh yeah the first ship in Spaceballs is super cool.
