Best Mainstream Bands Today

Let's face it, mainstream music sucks today. Who are your favorites amongst the piles garbage like Akon and Chingy and Nickelback etc. ?
 
pearl jam, red hot chili peppers, rage against the machine, incubus, modest mouse, white stripes, the strokes, tool, weezer.... many others
 
that's cool. while personally not really having that much of an opinion on them (I've only heard one song), that gives me a decent amount of respect for them.
 
You mean their overall body of work(Chili Peppers), or what they're making right now(Maroon 5, my recently aqquired guilty pleasure)?
 
its not so much that they are popular that matters, but this was merely a thread saying 'of all the crap mainstream popular banRAB, which one do you actually think are worth a damn?'
 
Round here if you admit that you're a fratellis fan you will get shot.

Arctic Monkeys second album is a slight disappointment. It doesn't contain the pure energy the first album contained-even though, admittedly, it DOES have a few stronger potential singles. Unlike their debut, where all the songs sounded a lot like each other.
 
Saying "so and so song is sh*tty, I mean, there is a bass in it" is a stupid comment.
Don't make this too complicated Frances, you'll just confuse yourself.
 
Stronger. The entire song is just samples from Harder Better Faster Stronger by Daft Punk, with Kanye rapping over it. It grows on you, but still pretty mediocre.
 
That's odd...I haven't had a chance to listen to the properly, but from what I heard, they don't have a very accessible, mainstream sound. :-/
