Best Guitar Solos

In the Led Zep album "How the West was Won" the solo from Immigrant Song is pretty blistering. Most of Page's stuff is.

Adding to that I'd say Steve Winwood when he's in a rock mood on some track like Dear Mr Fantasy goes down well

ditto for maggot brain, as well as anything else off maggot brain

smashing pumpkins-cherub rock(I don't like the smashing pumpkins but it has an awesome solo)
thin lizzy-romeo and the lonely girl/black rose/the emerald
ac/dc-riff raff

In Flames - Come Clarity (although Clayman is still the best album)

Joe Satriani - Love Thing (because Satch Boogie and Surfing With The Alien don't show as much emotion, and are too predictable)

Queens Of The Stone Age - Little Sister (Josh Homme is underrated!)

Rise Against - Blood-red, White, and Blue (not exactly complicated or anything particularly original, but for some reason i think its awesome)

Tommy Emmanuel - Angelina (an instrumental acoustic piece that is just awesome. I suppose this isn't exactly what the thread is looking for, but **** it, this is awesome)

It might be because I heard Time on mushrooms but that solo evoked a huge emotional response from me, Gilmour really did a great job on that one. Oh and I think that dude Niglett copied the Rolling Stone top 100 solos, and you can't really count on that magazine to compile a good list of anything.

Lines In The Sand by Dream Theater. The little solo partway through the song gives me craaaazy shivers everytime. It's not super fast and may not even be all that technical.. but damn, is it ever good.

I don't agree that it's Pink Floyd's best solo, but I do believe that Coming Back To Life is one of their best. It tenRAB to give me goosebumps more often than Comfortably Nurab does.

For sure man. That's a f*#kin rough one...

Crossing the Rubicon. There, I said it.

If you like their guitar work (not really a vocal similarity) then maybe check out All Shall Parish. Try the Metal Battle if you haven't already... I think that's one of the coolest things on here right now.. most interactive at least.

Here are some of my favorites that haven't been listed.
For the Love of God - Steve Vai
Child in Time - Deep Purple
Sultans of Swing (live with the sax/guitar duet at the end) - Dire Straits
Little Wing - Stevie Ray Vaughn
Time - Pink Floyd
July Morning - Uriah Heep
Pawn Shop - Sublime
Stranglehold - Ted Nugent

I still LOVE the guitar solo in the middle of the Genesis song "Firth of Fifth", it may not be an all balls out guitar wankfest, but its a subtle, moving, that takes that particular track to all new heavenly heights... Steve Hackett's guitar playing is both subtlely beautiful and creative all at once...

petrucci has incredible solos. hammett's from the first four tallica albums were good, had a nice improv feel to some parts. theres too fing many. i've written solos that i thought were pretty good, and a million nobodies have written great solos.
