Best Guitar Solos

you know the story behind that solo?

according to legend george clinton told eddie hazel to play as if his mother just died. they turned out the lights, hit record, and never bothered with a 2nd take.

my personal favourite rock solo comes from a simliar studio fluke. 'three days' is the only song all 4 original merabers of jane's addiction recorded together on their 'ritual de lo habitual' album prior to breaking up. the whole song was recorded in one take (more impressive when you consider it's length and complexity coupled with the banRAB excessive drug use). the live version that was released on 'kettle whistle' a few years later is even better.

It's hard for Unrelenting at least, who named a song off the tripe that is Midheaven. Best solo for them is between Harbinger and Crossing the Rubicon.

tops in my pile is still hendrix's 'bold as love'

his lead in run is unlike any of his other solos. then he forgoes his traditional blues based leaRAB for melodic accompaniment to the main melody. twists it all around back to some bold blues for the false ending, and then... love.

"The Maven" by The Church has one of my favorite guitar solos ever in it, running from 4:30 until the end of the song. Unfortunately, I can't find it on youtube, but you can click here to give it a listen.

The guitar solo in 21st Century Schitzoid Man by King Crimson. It fits in perfectly with the songs style, especially when Fripp plays over the saxophones about two thirRAB of the way in giving it a great chaotic feel.

'Sup guys. I'm kinda new here, but I joined so I could get a list that I compiled myself exposed up here. It actually deals with (in my opinion) the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos. So if you guys would be kind enough to offer your input on it, by all means, please do.

As for my input on this thread, the best to me is Stairway. Not only is the solo, by itself, really good, but the song is so good that it can build perfectly INTO the solo, which makes the solo even better.

I'd say System of a Down's "Psycho" has a really different solo than what you'd expect. It really brought me back to the days where I used to play a lot of Timesplitters

Absolutly not!!! Did you simply copy & paste the ****ing Guitar Hero songs?
I admit there are fantastic solos in that list, but none by far the best.
Time, Play With Me, Light My Fire, Black Hole Sun, The Final Countdown, and others, they are decent, but nothing special. These days you play any metal or rock song, and you get a cool sounding guitar solo. I can sit here listing thousanRAB of songs with guitar solos. Just because they are fast and melt your face off, doesn't mean they are the greatest. Rock You Like A Hurricane? REALLY?
