Best Guitar Solos

A few months ago, I got really addicted to guitar solos. So I went on an internet hunt trying to get other websites' opinions on which ones are the greatest. Websites like digitaldreamdoor.com and the Guitar World website really helped a lot, but in the end, it was my own opinion that sealed the deal. Now of course, this isn't a "definitive" list, just my opinion, and I felt that I should post this somewhere to get exposure. It's a good list that includes solos that are great (duh), but also popular. The songs themselves are popular, I'm sure. I mean yeah, I could've put a bunch of 10 minutes solos up here that nobody's ever heard of, but what's the point in that?

Anyways, without further ado:

Stairway to Heaven

Really? Iv grown to love his voice. Songs like Carvel, Omission, Wednesdays Song (all of Shadow Collide With People) are great example of this. I mean the guy has a ****ing range twice as big as most female singers. Of coarse I respect your opinion also ;) (A little more so because of your avatar)

So many people use Comfortably Nurab as the best Floyd solo.. Well truth is, its only that amazing live. The best solo ever to me, is Coming Back to Life by Pink Floyd. Its truly amazing both live, and on the CD.

I think I posted this in this thread when I first joined the forum, but here's a vid.

My personal favorite of all time, the work with the picking hand alone is enough to make it great.

To those who llike Hendrix solos, checkout German guitarist Ulrich Roth , or Uli Jon Roth. He started out as axeman for Scorpions (c.1973-77) but then split and had a less successful career as a soloist. But certainly a virtuoso in the vein of Hendrix.

*fixed

But seriously there are about 4 or 5 Pink Floyd guitar solos that come to mind, as no one puts as much emotion into a guitar as Mr. Gilmour.

Also The Trees by Rush is a personal favorite.

It was an example to discuss the "quality vs popularity" criterion. I wanted to show how difficult to corabine the two things is. Perhaps impossible. And since you said "I could've put a bunch of 10 minutes solos up here that nobody's ever heard of", my response to that would be: Don't worry about that, go ahead with it, just choose the best solos according to your sincere opinion. Forget the "popularity", because it's impossible to please everybody. Furthermore, many merabers would be glad to hear songs unknown to them.

Not sure about best metal solos because it's not a genre I frequent. My fave solos are...

Wilco-Impossible Germany, Nels Cline is the man.
Dino Jr-Out There, everything J Mascis does is crazy good.
Stones-Time Waits For No One, Mick Taylor kills it.
Blind Faith-Presence Of The Lord, this is why people call EC God.
