Best Guitar Solos

Sure...Hostile may not have beed the best solo he ever did but, aside from just throwing a name out there, I was considering overall song quality. It's just such an air-tight song, ripped through the solo masterfully and then back out again... awesome. New school has some great stuff out there too... The Human Abstract anyone?

I have the dvd... but anws cheers to that:beer:

my fav part from it is where Wilson's guitar strings break while they are trying to close their set with trains, he changes guitar and they just finish from where they left off. they're genius, they make a clumsy scenario seem so cool

Maggot Brain, ten minutes of blissful psychedelia drenched in reverb. From a 70's funk band no less.

Plus, the opening line is brilliant.

I know it's probably trite to say this, but the guitar solo on Pink Floyd's Comfortably Nurab seems to be perfect in every way, and I don't even really like the song... just the guitar solo.

Crazy Train brought nothing interesting to the table that hadn't been done already. The tapping's a little exciting, but all of the non-tapping parts of the solo are bland at best. It's a great song, but not because of the solo.

And Free Bird is wankery. I like wankery, but it doesn't make up the best solos, and how does it fit the song's theme AT ALL? They could have made the solo 2 minutes long and it would have been far better off.

So no, I'm not retarded. I just love to rip on a list of the most obvious picks for great guitar solos ever.

Now HERE'S a solo.

disturbed doesn't know how to make a solo. How could they have one of the best?

Mine are

COB - Kissing the shadows
Trivium - Anthem
Trivium - Gunshot to the head of Trepidation

Harsh much? It's alright, at least you guys are being honest.

I just wanted to put a DIVERSE list (hence the reason for Poison, KISS, Europe, etc.) You know, it's easy to put Zeppelin tunes up there, or Hendrix, Queen, Clapton (Cream / Solo / Layla-Era), etc, so I decided to go outside the norm.

On the Guiter Hero comment, I've played the first three. After LegenRAB of Rock, I never played any of the others, so I don't know what's a Guitar Hero song, outside of Sweet Child O' Mine, Free Bird and some others.

@Zaqarbal - I'm not into much "foreign" music (or whatever other name is for it), so I'm not experienced in that field.

Any suggestions on how to change the list?

I've heard some good Fripp solos over the year. Check out his little known albums with The Police guitarist Andy Summers. And then there are Fripp's contributions to David Sylvian's albums.

Antoher Sylvian contributor on guitar is David Torn - as good as Fripp, maybe better, and cetainly more varied in what he can play.

For some reason I really dig the solo in this song, very raw (starts at 1:40)

The solo in Time is pretty sweet to (starts at 3:30).
