Best Guitar Solos

It seemed like you weren't finished, so I fixed that for you.

Most of the choices in this thread are good so far, Maggot Brain and Robert Fripp are both great. My personal favs are CliRAB of Dover by Eric Johnson and The Curse of Castle Dragon by Paul Gilbert. I'll post a video later, YT is blocked at school and all the proxies in the world won't work :\

Am I Evil - Diamondhead

Sweet Leaf - Black Sabbath

Dance Of Death - Iron Maiden

Heartbreaker - Led Zeppelin

Rock Bottom - UFO

At Least some of my favorite anyway...

Led Zeppelin's Heartbreaker, wasn't meant to be there originally until Page decided to slam one in, brilliantly out of place, superflous and totally insane. The guitar set up was completely different so it didn't even fit in with the sound, the timing is all wrong and it's so sloppy it could make a virtuoso cringe. But it's full of attitude and excess and that's what Zep was about.

Some of my favorites include:

Neil Young (w/ Crazy Horse) - Cinnamon Girl
Jimi Hendrix - Hey, Baby (New Rising Sun) [especially the live version from Maui!]
Michio Kurihara (w/ Boris) - Rainbow
Kurt Cobain (w/ Nirvana) - In Bloom, Serve The Servants
Marc Ribot - St James Infirmary
Aaron Johnson (w/ Bruce) - Two Dollars
Marc Cantlin & Aaron Johnson (w/ Bruce...) - Too Many Looks
Lou Reed (w/ The Velvet Underground) - I Heard Her Call My Name

...there are many others

The guitar solo at the end of Purina Hall of Fame by Propagandhi stopped me in my tracks in 8th grade when I first heard it. Greatest album closing song/solo of all time for me.

i have never understood people's admiration for Kurt Cobain. Sure, I'd take him over Courtney Love any day...but that's really not saying much.

Not to really bash him, but I found him to be just mediocre.

You should watch the live DVD Arriving Somewhere. They do a fantastic job with that song. Granted Wilson makes it twice as long.
