dragonball z's gone thru many dubbing studio changes and sadly, they haven't all been great.

Goku's gone thru the most voice actors, while Vegeta's only gone through 2.

[Post moderated by Staff.]

my faves are Ian Corlett for Goku and Chris Sabat for Vegeta

I've taken a liking to Peter Kelamis' Goku. He just manages to capture Goku's "simple" nature nicely. I like Ian James Corlett and Sean Schemmel, too, though. But, I guess I'll pick Schemmel if I have to choose.

For Vegeta...I have no opinion, maybe Sabat.

2 other ones voiced Teen/Adult Goku. Steve Blum voiced Goku in Dragon Ball Final Bout, and Jeffery Watson voiced him in the Blue Water version of the original Dragon Ball.

Blum's clips are at:
0:00 - 0:07
1:32 - 1:52
4:40 - 5:20

Milton James also voiced Vegeta in Final Bout. *points up* You could hear him somewhere there.

While it doesn't really matter...

...I prefer Nozawa and Horikawa, followed by Schemmel and Sabat. I grew up with the latter pair but the former pair has played their parts for many more years and are much more skilled actors.

I like Sean Schemmel as Goku because he was able to balance Goku's humorous side and his serious side pretty well. As much as I liked Brian Drummond as Vegeta, honestly it was too high pitched. Chris Sabat's voice for Vegeta fitted him a bit more, and while his performance struggled a first, he eventually improved greatly.

Wow, I'm so used to Chris Sabat as Vegeta. The other guy sounRAB so silly. Then again, I haven't watched DBZ in a long time. Maybe I did hear something from him and I just forgot.

The Goku actors all sound the same to me. I always liked Vegeta, though, so I may be biased.

Are they more skilled actors or is it just easier to sound better when you are doing the original track? Japanese people are going to do better job with a Japanese script then Americans, the translation process and the low production funRAB of most dubbing studios can affect a performance. considering the deck is stacked against them, its harder to say Schemmel and Sabat are inferior VAs, its not quite an even playing field. Japanese dubs of american cartoons likely don't sound as good as the English voice track.

I mean Ms. Nozawa also dubbed the voice for Doug Funnie in the Japanese version of Doug, does mean its fair to compare her to Billy West in that role? I don't think so.

For Vegeta, I have to go with Brian Drummond, I thought that he was good enough, sounded young, and not on constipated.

As for Goku, My favorite English voice actually comes from a parody fandub, Masako X, as he actually capture Masako Nozawa side of Goku in a male voice.

I know some people give Drummond flack for the 9000 line, but keeping in mind that Vegeta's been a ham in every version of DBZ no matter WHAT language I'd still go for Drummond as the best Vegeta voice.

Nah, in the original Japanese he's played straight because he is a serious character. None of this FUNimation bull crap dialogue and mischaracterization (which happens with pretty much all of the characters, but I digress).

Though I prefer the Japanese version and grew up with both Ocean (before it was on Cartoon Network, and it was on syndication) and FUNimation's dubs

My favourite English voices actually are from TeamFourStar's DBZ Abridged, for Vegeta, I actually prefer Lanipator over Chris Sabat (I don't know why), and as for Son Goku, in my opinion out of all the English voices I've heard for him, I think MasakoX does the best Goku out of all of them, especially since he captures Nozawa's performance as Goku very well, even with a male voice.

a couple more characters have been added

for Gohan, I choose Stephanie Nadolny, man wot an emotional performance.

as for Krillin, I'd go for Terry Klassen. Sonny Strait was way too nasally for me :P

1. English dubs
2. Spanish dubs
3. Japanese dubs

Though, I find the Ocean dubs of Goku's voice sound ok. It sound like a young version of Goku. But Sean Schemmel voice fits well for Goku's older voice. (IMO)

Sean Schemmel eventually became my favorite Goku.

And maybe it's just nostalgia, but Brian Drummond will always be the voice of Vegeta for me. Nothing against Chris Sabat, because he came into his own eventually, though.

Goku - MasakoX because I like his best out of every english Goku I've heard and honestly I don't have much of a fondness for Nozawa

Vegeta - Horikawa because his Vegeta rocks and while Drummond and Sabat are good neither come close to being as good. I'd give the edge to Drummond for dub voices I guess but he really only sutable for Vegeta when he's evil. Lanipator's Vegeta is pretty awesome too I'd say I at least like it more than Sabat's interpretation though they are of course similar but slightly different.
