My monthly bill is becoming harder and harder to afford. Im wondering is there a really good but free VoIP service for the S60 phone with wifi. I cheacked out some other thread saying about cheapvoip, but i dont know how to download a program for the phone. Anyways any input will be GREATLY appreciately.

voipcheap has no program for the phone. youre supposed to use the phones built in SIP client to configure it. its quite easy, but voipcheap only allows 5min phone calls at a time which might be just enough for you. if not you can always pay for skype ($30/YEAR) which gives you unlimited phone calls to anywhere in the usa/canada...damn good deal to me, perfect if you have edge or 3g

dont be too quick to jump into the fring/skype unlimited, especially if your talking about the umlimited northern america plan.

fring/skype works as a skype to skype or skype pay per minute.. BUT once you get all excited and pay skype for the unlimited plan, it wont work anymore. skype has to believe that you are IN america. when you hit skype through the fring server, the fring servers ip address puts you in some country that is NOT america and skype no longer believes that you are in america.

in other words, you pay $30 to tell your friends that you can ALMOST use voip with your awesome wifi-phone.

unless chopsu3i has some other way to get into skype? check the fring support forums. people are claiming the same problem from germany and other countries as well.

upside? maybe england (or wherever fring server is located) becomes a local call?

almost there

5 mins is pretty good considering im going ot be using ltos of those "hi coming home" "hey meet me ..." How do you configure it. and where is the place to configure it

I downloaded fring, but i dont really get how to use it.

There's already a VOIP app called Gizmo on there.

But I've been using TruPhone (I'm on unlimited in the UK) and it rocks to Hell !
I'm using it on Wifie at home and 3G on the road.
ZERO lag on both - and AMAZING clarity ... better than my home cordless.

search "voip" in this forum and theres a 2 page thread on being used exclusively without a sim. theres configurations for the SIP client in the thread. oh and you can only dial to landlines for free..its supposed to be really cheap to dial cell phones as well, but i havent tried it yet.

I have tried using fring, and i chose voipcheap under the sip configuration, but it wont let me call. i dont know what is going on

i also tried the voipcheap setting from the thread i found on hofo, and it input all the setting, and it said registartion FAILED. also i cannot find internet.tele configuration menu on my phone. i am using a nokia n91me

I don't know if it's different for everybody, but in my experience it wasn't 5 minutes per call - it was 5 minutes, indefinitely. After I used up my 5 minutes with (free) VOIPCheap, it took me about a week before I could call again. I don't recommend it unless you're willing to pay the 10 euros. Payment was a bit weird, too. Can't remember what they wanted but it wasn't a credit card and I couldn't pay because of where I live.

If you've got the phone for it, try Truphone. It's free until the end of June and I think right now, it's the best VOIP option out there.

use that thread!

and i dunno about you sinta, but ive used about 20minutes of free voip this week already. it even says on my voipcheap account call history that ive used more than 5minutes. but as soon as it hits 4min 59sec you get disconnected

I also use Truphone. It has free calls to several countries right now so I'm taking advantage of that. I might switch to it even when they start charging since Skype has raised their price...

I've also tried Gizmo but I have trouble making calls from my phone to the desktop Gizmo client.

You have to send an SMS to the Truphone +44 (UK) number so you must be able to send an international SMS from your phone. In the unlikely case that your carrier doesn't support the + syntax you could try using the 0 syntax for your country. (i.e. 011 for US, 001 for most other countries.)

What do you mean "it won't work"? Do you mean you get an error message when trying to send the message, or do you just mean you aren't getting an SMS back? I could never get the text back either, and I send international texts every day, so I was sure it wasn't a problem on my end. I emailed [email protected] with my number and phone model and they got back to me really quickly. They set up an account for me, I downloaded the program from their site, and that was that. It's been working great ever since.
