I have a 30gallon tank that is sandy and planted. I want to get either gouramis or dwarf gouramis and some other fish. What and how many of each should I get?
I really don't like cory cats. I have some already (in a different tank) and I am looking for something a bit different. Is there another kind of catfish that would work?

I would go with dwarf gourami, maybe 3-4 of them, or 1-2 full grown gouramis. The thing about larger gourami's is they can sometimes get really aggressive to other tank mates. The number really depends on your male to female ratio. You want either all males of more females than males.
And perhaps a school of community fish to fill in the middle with a small school of cory's for the bottom.
Maybe some blue dwarfs, 3-4 http://animal-world.com/encyclo/fresh/anabantoids/images/DwarfGourami(PowderBlue)WFA_Ap8AF.jpg, with a school of cardinal tetra 6-10, and maybe a small school, 4-5, of skunk, julli or panda cories as they will love the sandy bottom and these ones stay about 2 inches. (others can get 3-4)
Best of Luck!
