Best explosions in movies thread...

I saw The Marine on cable on holiday last summer 07. It's the most shallow 90 minutes of a movie you will see with WWE (wrestling)'s John Cena playing this big lunkhead ex-navy seal out to save his girl. It's not even as good as Commando and that's saying something.

But, but... it has some of the BEST explosions I have EVER seen. If you've got the money and the system, get the movie on blu-ray and watch it in DTS HD sound on a 50" plasma.

There's a fantastic scene when John is fighting some bad guys. The main bad guy, played by Robert Patrick (yes Terminator 2) is running away with John's bird and knows he's back there. John's in a boat-house. Robert notices petrol tanks and starts blasting away. John runs for his life and dives (headfirst, of course) out of the window.

Suddenly.... BOOOOOOM!!

I swear 2 acres of land were destroyed, it is the most gloriously OTT explosion I have ever seen. Nothing could survive it. But guess what... John does.

You can pick it up for

Blowing the top floor off the Cyberdyne building in T2 was pretty good. That was a real office building, and the film crew built an extra storey on top of it and really blew it up, if the documentary I saw is to be believed.

Not a film as such but the series Band of Brothers has some brill war explosions that one where the forest is destroyed as they duck in the dugouts is classic , Battle of Bastogne I think ?

I'd say the explosion in Spy Game was pretty good. Also I'd give an honourable mention to the explosion of the White House in Independence Day.

Tatooine was also taken out of service in Star Wars.

If you want something bigger you may have to look at whole star systems being taken out, or galaxies colliding.

Back to earth however, nothing seems to have been larger than the H bomb tests of the Cold War, and so the largest explosion on film would be one of the recordings.

What about T2's nuclear decimation of L.A. in Sarah's dream sequences? The Cyberdyne explosion is a mere firework compared to that, lol.

Independance day.- The first attack

The Matrix-Where neo set's the bomb and 'zip line's' up the elevator shaft.(with the bouncing door scene)

Funniest- Mousehunt......."Do you smell gas????" *Boom* *flies out of chimney*
