Best ever war film?

I don't really like war movies generally. Can watch them once maybe, but not something I would want to go back to. Closest thing for me is Kelly's Heroes. Which is a fantastic movie.
 
I like the films that either:

Follow true events (sort of)

The Dam Busters
A Bridge To Far
The Longest Day
Battle Of The River Plate
Shindler's List
The Great Escape
Black Hawk Down
Tora, Tora, Tora
The Battle Of Britain

Or show war as true horror

Platoon
Full Metal Jacket
Saving Private Ryan
Casualties Of War
Apocalypse Now
Das Boot
The Cruel Sea
Ice Cold In Alex
Bridge On The River Kwai
All Quiet On The Western Front
 
CH4 is showing a war film at 1pm or so every day of this coming week:

Mon--Freedom Radio (good)
Tues-The Gift Horse (good)
Wed- Danger Within (very good--a classic)
Thurs--Paths Of Glory (need I say more?)
Friday- Conspiracy Of Hearts (good)
 
I loved Sutherland as Oddball. :D

Where Eagles Dare was fantastic the first time I saw it as it was in a cinema with an enormous screen , the cablecar sequence looked amazing for it's time.


Reach for the Sky, which tells the story of Douglas Bader is also a brilliant movie and I regard Bader as one of the greatest heroes this country has ever known.

I've yet to see Paths of Glory or Letters from Iwo Jima.
