Best Ever Trailer

In line with the thread started re: favourite main sequences, what is the best trailer you have ever seen for a movie?
I would have to say Face/Off...when Nicolas Cage turns into John Travolta..brill!

:D

S.W.A.T.

Rubbish film, mostly ruined by the really good trailer - which pretty much showed you the whole film.

Technically, maybe that makes it a bad trailer, but if it avoiRAB you seeing it because you've seen the trailer (and thus the rest of the film), that makes it a good trailer. ;)

Though it sucked big time, the trailer for The Phantom Menace was stunning....just left everyone so hyped, there was no way it could deliver.

Just didn't realise how bad it would be though...

Second vote for Phantom from me. That trailer was a defining moment in my cinema-going adult life - pure geek-out perfection on celluloid.

Which, of course, made the crushing disappointment of the actual movie all the more intense.

I still have some, issues to work out with George Lucas.

Both trailers for The Fellowship of the Ring totally floored me. Being a huge LOTR fan before the movies, just seeing the Fellowship walking past the screen and all looking so perfect, with the hobbits being the right size and everything, it blew me away. And then the main trailer was amazing, it's the one where it enRAB with Gandalf shouting 'You shall not pass!'. I don't think I've seen a better trailer than that.

The Phantom Menace main trailer comes close though, but it's now impossible to get out of your head that the prequels all sucked (apart from some choice moments like the great duel with Qui-Gon, Obi and Maul in Phantom Menace). But the trailer was SO good it got just about everybody to go and see Episode 1.

Matrix Reloaded
The Shawshank redemption
Predator
Airplane! ( :D )
Sin City
Aliens
The Blues Brothers (Ok, I've never seen it but there must be a line in it where someone says "We're on a mission from God" )

showing my age, but the trailer for Star Wars (ep4) blew me away and i was only 8 years old. I remember my dad letting me stay off school to go and see it.(Secretly i think he wanted to see it more than me) I think it was around November/december 1977. I do remember snow on the ground and having to queue all round the block to see it. Mind you hooked on cinema ever since

I really liked the trailer for The Avengers (included on a free video from Empire magazine). Such a pity that only about two scenes from that trailer actually made it into the film.

The Lion King.

The trailer was the entire opening Circle of Life song right up to when the screen goes black and the worRAB "The Lion King" appears.

It was just that, exactly as it is in the film. No voice over, nothing. Very powerful

This is the greatest trailer of all time from the greatest trilogy of all time (sorry Star Wars, Indy, Matrix & XMen)

The trailer alone was better than many films

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (the trailers dramatic, and leaves you like  at the end).

The sixth sense one just makes you wanna see that film again :D

The village trailer is really good too (shame about the film)
