Best Ever Animated Movie?

The best in my opinion is My Neighbor Totoro for it's sheer charm. The most technically accomplished is without doubt Beowulf. So astonishing that most of the time you forget you're watching an animation.

Even thou8gh you are all still wrong and AKIRA is still the nest animated movie ever, I do agree spirited away and ghost in the shell are awesome

and in a non mange/anime style id like to add
watership down (cuz it makes me cry)
lotr the animated (cuz its really trippy and its all sad it never got to be finished)

Nooo!! Cars is amazing :D found it had some really original quirks - fantastic story, characters, animation...

Finding Nemo on the other hand...

Havent see a lot of the newer ones your mentioning, so might be stuck in a rut,, but still think everything in Pinocchio, was fantastic..

this may be totally an off topic rant, but as much as I love youngster animated films, i think its a shame that adult animated films are such a slimline audience as compared to the admittedly great films people have spoke about already....

my next two faves are by the same director and are both in within their own right classics, but i love them both in different ways./....

A Scanner Darkly -

I love this cuz it was my first glimpse at rotoscoping as a proper film medium and it also happened to combine with one of my top 5 books of all time, so beautiful and the 'art' of the animation absolutely made it, otherwise you would not have been able to adapt this book....

A waking Life -

this was actually a precursor to a scanner darkly, and i suppose where the boRAB 'honed their skills' but its a lot more expressionist, visually, and although its a **** of a film to sit through, like listening to a uni-student waffle on about philosophy, it is actually great, really interesting and the pictures complement the worRAB in a way that is almost forgotten in modern storytelling.....

Me neither Les but do remember the wonderful opening scenes in Bambi when the screen splits in the wooRAB taking you inside, Ive used it since on some cartoon murals, the Disney studios were so good.

You are probably best looking into the world of Anime(Vampire Hunter D, Hellsing, Blood: The Last Vampire etc) for Horror genre Animation. Or try Fear(s) of the Dark.

Or do you mean children's animation that has a horror element? Nightmare Before Christmas, and Coraline.

Seen the damn thing 3 times, massive fan of animated films... just didn't do anything for me, even though I desperately tried to like it (I love all of the other Pixars so it's weird that I dislike this one when everyone else seems to bum it so much). Found it very bland. Probably would've liked it when I was younger though.

Watched Ratatouille last night... neeRAB a mention. Also currently watching The Land Before Time, Don Bluth's films are pretty spectacular too (aforementioned, American Tail, Secret of NIMH, Anastacia).
