Best Drummer

musical talent is only a small part of being a good artist...

moon, portnoy, jordison etc. get in for style alone

grohl only drummed for nirvana did he not? i know he did some side projects with qotsa and others, but i really dont think he played drums for the foos

Jack De Johnette - Jazz
Leroy Horsemouth Wallace - Reggae
Stewart Copeland - Rock
Carlton Barrett - Reggae
Al Jackson Jr. - Funk/R&B
Topper Headron - Rock

People always flip out over Peart. But I still think Bonham is the best because he is more versatile. Zeppelin played a lot of different styles of music and Bonahm always adapted well. Rush is all about the driving beat and Peart throwing in a million fills. Dont get me wrong Peart is a badass but I feel like he is a bit limited.

Vinnie Colaiuta is awesome he should be on the list.

In my opinion Travis Barker is the best drummer in the world. Whether you love or hate Blink 182 he has an amzing style and originality about him. Also Jon Theodore of the Mars Volta and Joey Jordison of course.

Yeah, prog does have the best drummers in rock, that goes without saying. :D

Fun fact. Before joining The Police, Stewart Copeland was the drummer for a (rather horrible) prog group called Curved Air.

Which was fronted by this really f*cking hot hippie chick.

Keith Moon...and by best I interpreted as 'favorite' so I pick Moon because he is insane at filling.

Baker doesn't get enough credit though. Terry Bozzio and Topper Headon are pretty underrated too.

Interesting. This is my one thing I've learned today....even though it is disappointing. I'll still enjoy the music when I listen to it every now and again.

No, if I were a Jew, I would eat cake in a restaurant, ask to go to the bathroom, and leave the restaurant, AND charge you too much for the taxes I'm doing for you.

It's the same drumsets they use in the studio.

It is depending on good of an ear you have. Of course if you're a musician, you can tell the difference.

You picked up on the word complex, but too bad you missed the word "fills."

I never said Carey didn't play complex rhythms, but good drumming (to me) is more than just about time signature changes. It's funny you say I'm not well educated because drums are probably my best instrument of all.

Haha, pretty sure somebody has already said that in this thread.

And no, Danny Carey is an amazing drummer. I love him. I saw him live and he performed to perfection, exactly as I listen to him on recorded stuff. Definitely my favourite drummer.
