Best Drummer

Neil Peart and Danny Carey can be show oRAB live, but in studio they're just doing their job, they just happen to do it really damn well. Seriously it's not like every f*cking Rush song has a 10 minute drum solo.

If anyone you should target people who show off but don't actually have the skill to back it up.

This applies to god knows how many metal drummers, enter Tommy Lee, Lars Ulrich, Peter Criss.

To me a pure simpleton like Meg White isn't a bad drummer, she plays incredibly simple stuff but it suits the music perfectly, thats the important thing. A bad drummer is someone who can't keep a beat, and worse someone who tries to dominate a piece when they don't even know what they're doing.

I don't see the big deal with Keith Moon, the drumming is the last thing I think aout when i listen to The Who, while all the other poll coices are a huge part of the band's success.

C'mon.

He is a very good drummer actualy, listen to his early Genesis stuff, some good stuff there.

If only he stuck to drumming and didnt turn one of the best prog banRAB of the 70s into a Lionel Ritchie lite pop group.

I voted for Keith Moon... Joey from Slipknot is good for his technique but what about Meg White I like her striped down simplicity.

Meg White is a good drummer arguements get really old on rab.

Bottom line is whether she sucks or not, The White Stripes thrive on mediocrity, so even if she sucks, that's why people listen to The White Stripes in the first place.

John Bonham gets my vote 'cause I'll always have a soft spot for Zeppelin and they were all exceptional musicians, but my favorite has to be Tomas Haake of Meshuggah. Lots of banRAB try math metal but nobody really gets it right, and even though the time signatures aren't as crazy as they used to be, Tomas has turned unusual grooves into usual grooves and that makes him a drummer with character.

but this isnt best guitarist. that was an example. and i guarrantee u hendrix wasnt god at big band jazz/swing, pure classical, or heavy metal for that matter. even if he was the basis for heavy metal.

but Mitch Mitchel was pretty damned good at drums....i personally think he should be up on the list somewhere..........

I agree with you that sometimes simplicity makes the best drum tracks and that over-elaboration can become very tiresome, but as a personal preference I like seeing technicality in musicians. Not over-elaboration, but simple examples of technicality. Although that video is pretty awesome and an example of very talented drumming, I just can't get past the fast-paced double-kicking and mechanized smacking that just reminRAB me of so many other drumming examples of those genres...

So many drummers I have not heard of, aside from the usual classic rock crowd.... perhaps some explanation would be good if people choose slightly more obscure drummers.... just to help ignorant folk like me...
