Please explain? I don't see how Danny Carey doesn't apply his skill. I think he's actually really good at applying his skill. Listen to several tool tracks and you have to admit he's a creative drummer that tries to come up with new sounRAB all the time.

You're right that there are many drummers that are very skilled but aren't able to explore their abilities. I heartly disagree Carey is one of them. I don't think you can put him on the same level as Peart, Bonham, Moon though. I think I mentioned it before in this thread that I really can't pick a #1. There are too many brilliant drummers that I have to choose from. But of course that's the fun of a thread and discussion like this.
 
Most technical drummers can be boring, as a matter of fact.

And why am i immature?...Because i dont like DT?...I never said i hated them, i just hate how overrated they are in general, by you especialy...And to be fair most people find your anti Tool and Mars Volta rantings to be pretty immature as well.
 
Carey is by far the most overrated drummer of all time. My favourite drummer always changes. Being a drummer for almost 20 years now, I never really had a clear favourite. I like Portnoy but he doesn't amaze me as much as Henry Ranta. I think Ranta has to be my favourite ever drummer. His work on The Chainheart Machine is unmatchable. He corabines insanely fast blast beats with sheer beauty and has the best fills I've ever heard in all of rock. I'm guessing we're not allowed to talk about jazz drummers here...

and keep going on and on about how the other person is wrong.
 
Joey Jordison is a great drummer and so is Travis Smith and so is Chris Adler. you really cant have a best drummer. they are all good and can play each others stuff.

Of the five on the list, I wouldn't rate Moon higher than fourth. Of the five listed, I would rate them as follows:

1. Baker
2. Bonham
3. Peart
4. Moon
5. Carey
 
Yes, I see your point. But they played mainly jazz and that is what they excelled at. If you think a drummer who grasps the intensity and definition of rock, then Bonham or Moon definatley come to mind more than a legendary jazz drummer.

A lot of rock drummers can play a wide variety of genres. So it's not always the case that rock drummers are lesser musicians.

vince rogers was the drummer for three-piece math marauders tera melos. i've been lucky enough to see him live twice, once in dekalb and once in chicago. now, people argue over whether his role in the band was as prominent as nick or nate's (guitarist and bassist, respectively), but if you listen to pretty much any of tera melos's music you'll instantly recognize vince's intense drumming style. he is one of the most technically sound drummers i've ever heard, and he eventually left the band to be a college professor at UC Berkeley. dude's so smart he has a PhD in mathematics, and he's also one of the nicest guys i've ever met.

he's better than all of the guys on this list.
 
Jazz fusion drummers like Dennis Charabers and Dave Weckl sh*t all over any rock drummer you can name. Neil Peart might give them a run for their money, but not even he's as good as those guys.
