Best Director's/Other Commentary

I'm not a great lover of commentarys. One's by directors can get very tedius at times.
The one on Dog Soldiers is ok though.
 
I loved the Evil Dead 2 comment track.

It amused me with Lotr when it kept popping up with ther enames so you didnt forget although two people had nearly the same voice.
 
Probably the first one I heard was the best. John Carpenter and Kurt Russell on The Thing. I wonder if they ever did an Escape from New York one..?

The Lord of the Rings ones start off great, but as the the trilogy progresses I start to develop a real dislike of Peter Jackson and the various decisions they made. :D

On they whole though I do love DVD commentaries, though occasionally some don't really take off, which is a shame, especially on really good films. :(
 
The Thing for me too.

Less well known is Blood on Satan's Claw with Mark Gatiss, Jeremy Dyson and Reece Shearsmith from "The League of Gentlemen", only released on the version in the Tigon Collection box set (now deleted).
 
I enjoyed the one on Fight Club. The banter between Brad Pitt, Ed Norton and David Fincher made me laugh. Has some good insights into the film too and points out stuff you might have missed like the subliminal Tylers.
 
It partly depenRAB on what you want from them. I like ones which talk about the story and characters and point out things I might have missed. Other people seem to like ones which go into detail about the film - what kind of filter they used for which shots, or how the CGI was composited. I'm less keen on that. Still others like anecdote from the cast, eg about the day so and so turned up drunk. I'm not interested in that at all.

Terminator 2 has a good mix of all three approaches.

I remember The Mummy for showing that the directors cared about all the wrong things; and There's Something About Mary showing that the directors cared about a lot of important things, which was good.
