Best digital SLR camera for Macro photography around 1000$?

The key word is macro. All kit lenses have a reasonable enough close focus which will allow you to fill the frame with all but very small subjects, if you need to get closer than this then you need a dedicated macro lens.

As SLRs are interchangeable systems this neither includes or precludes any DSLR system.

That said, Canon and Nikon are the two main players. Sigma make very decent lenses for both at a cost well below Canons nad Nikons, mostly with comparable quality, sometimes even with higher quality.

A rebel XS is a fine budget body, coupled with a Sigma 70mm macro lens you have a brilliant high quality macro set up.

macro technically means a lens that can project a 1:1 rendition of a subject at the film plane. It is often misused.

all SLRs can do macro so i would go with the nikon d40 and get a macro lense cause thoose are expensive lenses

Right now Im using a Sony Cybershot DCS-H5. I am going to upgrade in the future to an SLR camera. I want to focus on macro photography, insects, flowers, water drops etc. Any recommendations on brand, and lens to use? I would like to keep the price range at roughly 1000 dollars total for both.

Ive had a family member recommend getting a used rebel in the 500-700 dollar range. And another friend recommend a nikon
