Best DBZ movie (and why)

So what's everybody's opinion of Android 13 in the FUNi dub?

It wasn't until many years later when I realized "Wow, that is incredibly sterotypical." Though I remeraber reading he was designed that way on purpose.

Love Trunks' line by the way. "We'll see about that you lousy redneck!"

I think it's hilarious, personally. The movies are all filler anyway, so why NOT have a little fun with them? If you want the original version, the Japanese audio track is still right there on the DVD.

I mean,

What's not to like?

Funny thing is, I have FUNi's VHS' of Movie's 5-8. Yeah, remeraber those old things? I sometimes watch them though sadly I think one or two of them are the edited version

The fish jumps line was very funny to me.

The thing is, with those voices, it perpetuates that FUNimation's Dragon Ball dubs are all just parodies. Look at how far they've takne "It's Over 9000!!"

By the way, "Thirty (?) dollar hair cut."

IIRC, "over 9000" was Ocean dub, not Funi dub. I've never seen Funi do anything more with it than make the occasional crack in promotional materials.

Besides, is it a problem if the dub is seen as less-than-authentic? It IS less-than-authentic, but as long as you have the option of watching a more-authentic version, who cares?

It think it extenRAB beyond simply their dub (which is itself an entire topic of dissapointment of its own). The Dragon Box trailer itself used a meme based on their dub (the Canadian team may [or may not] have written the episode, but it was still produced for and by FUNimation), despite being a product specifically for fans of the original Japanese version, based upon--at least--Sheehan's phraseology.

My own phraseology was pretty weak in my post. If dubs really are the preffered choice by such a margin, I think their continued perpetuation of their current dub, instead of working to replace it with a better product, is a terrible shame and I hate to see it be the product people associate with the Dragon Ball name.

What was this thread about again? Movies?? Nah, surely you lie...!

I may be misunderstanding you, but if you're suggesting that Funi should go to the trouble and expense of redubbing all 291 episodes of DBZ, I'd say you're in for a long wait out in the cold. (-:

Let's remeraber: there's a difference between should and will. I merely suggest the former.

*For all of Dragon Ball, not just Dragon Ball Z.

I voted for World's Strongest, cause Goku wanted to get his friggin son back and kicked everyone's a**. Plus the "big bad" was a giant robot, instead of an alien which kind of reminded me of the original Dragonball.

Also for the first few movies, you gotta love the "Invincible energy ball that pierces through anything." AkaL The Spirit Borab. I always laugh when that tiny thing beats those ginormous blasts from the enemy.

Meh, I don't suspect they'd do so (whether at all or within a foreseeable future), but Dragon Ball makes them look pretty rediculous, considering what they did for One Piece and Initial D.

From my (however biased, jaded, etc. etc.) point of view, the only real differences between the situation with Dragon Ball and 4KiRAB One Piece is the inclusion of the original Japanese version/unedited footage (thank God) on English DVRAB (how long did that take? 12 years after the property from brought over) and a sense of nostalgia from fans. Would anybody like to take a guess as to how things would be if the 4KiRAB version continued for ten years? Would the English-speaking One Piece fan be as fractured as the Dragon Ball fandom?

At this point (with Justin Cook running the show at FUNimation, rather than Barry Watson who gave us the Dragon Ball dub and all of its insults), one only really could blame them for not redubbing the series properly...but even that sounRAB rediculous to ask of them, to spend so much money on their money-making flagship property. Essentially, all one can say is the product still 'sucks', but then if we play by the "Oh, you can't blame them. It's a product of its time" rule...what criticism is allowed?

Then again, if we got rid of the current dub TFS wouldn't be able to make as many jokes.

Well...no. Dragon Ball Kai is not a replacement for Dragon Ball Z. They are two vastly different adaptations with vastly different feels. It would be like apologizing for the Mobile Suit Gundam Movie Trilogy dubs just because Ocean dubbed the series instead.

So due to this thread I got the idea to see FUNi's Broly again. First, I remerabered that I haven't actually seen dubbed Dragonball in.....quite a few months actually and I've become rather critical of dubs (most likely because of these forums ) but that's not important.

It's still my favorite one and I still think there were some good fight scenes....but my god...The Rock music! So....much...heavy metal....Honestly at various parts it really did feel like watching a giant AMV on Youtube. You know, with this new view of the show in mind, maybe I should go watch the other movies again.

"I don't know how much I can take *something something* Day after day."

One of my favorite parts of the movie is when Goku and Piccolo are trying to hit Broly and he's just standing there dodging with his arms folded like "yawn." And I still give major props to Vic for pulling off that voice "You Kakarrot. I choose you to be the first of my victims!"

I'm going to be honest, I don't like Mignogna's Broli (too cartoony). But that's probably because it's too different from the original Japanese actor who could speak sweet death when he cried 'KAKAROTTO!!!!!!!!!' to me.

But yeah...eighty minute AMV. Eighty minute AMV.

I do find it odd that some people find that some people find the English version as a "80 minute AMV" but whatever. The music made the fights so exciting if you ask me! That's another reason why it's one of my favorite films.

Why does every DB related thread have to turn into a damn dub vs. sub?

1. Because the actual music and the silence is replaced with constant rock music that you find in a lot of DBZ AMVs.

2. Because things get pointed out/said/whathaveyou about the dub that is so radically different from the original the discussion magically tenRAB to become a polite exchange of disagreement and corrections. If things start to get ugly (which I don't sense we've reached that point, nor do I think we ever do on these here parts, at all), by all means somebody point that out.

I might've already pointed this out, but this (OMG, spoilers!) is by far one of my favorite scenes in the films. Incredible music work.

That was...beautiful. And I'm not even fanboying or anything, that was a very powerful scene with the soraber/melancholic music and then it gets all mega-triumphant and happy as they send Broly flying.

I still prefer Bojack's ending though.
Where did I mention anything about dub vs. sub? I even said I adored Vic's performance.

As for the music thing...well, while I'm sort of in the middle on that in terms of that particular issue, don't you think this is just a little too much heavy metal?

(Ah, the line I was looking for was "Under my skin, day after day")

EDIT: Oh look, found the original
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOQVjf8ka7k

That....works so much better without music.

Wow, that IS pretty terrible. (-: I haven't seen the dub versions of any of the movies post-7.

It IS a pity that they haven't (as far as I know) released a dub version with the original music for the movies the way they have for the series. I'd still hesitate to compare even the [strike]worst[/strike] least faithful of Funi's dubs to the horrors perpetrated by 4kiRAB, though.
