Best DBZ movie (and why)

Maybe it's just the fact that no one died, or was forced to watch in helplessness as Goku destroyed everything, though he did at the end lol.

By no means is Movie 3 a really really great movie, but what stanRAB out to me, making it the best one was that everyone got to play. Even Chaozu got to fight, and he's my favorite character.
 
I choose No. 13: Wrath of a Dragon, because- with exception to one-&-a-half filler episodes- its the only time it covers the period between Buu and the 10 years later epilogue: with Gohan and Videl as the Saiya-Man Team, Goku alive, Gohan wearing his father's Gi. I'm hoping DBKai covers that period as well.
Second in my choice is No. 3 Tree of Might. To me it has some beautiful Goku-Gohan moments, especially the post-GohanOzaruu aftermath when the father cradles his unconscious son in his arms.
 
I've always liked Tree of Might, mostly because Tullece is such a badass. I mean, objectively, he's not particularly interesting, and his only real motive is "DESTROY THE WORLD TO OBTAIN ULTIMATE POWER!!" but hey we can't all be Garlic Jr. He's still awesome, though. It's probably the red scouter. And his fantastic power-up scene. You can have your Super Saiyans and all that fancy gold, but man, some inflating muscles and a sudden POW! is all I need.

Interesting henchmen, too. The too little dwarves are meh, but that giant robot guy? Kakao or something. He's awesome. And, like everyone said, it's good seeing the Z-Fighters save the Earth. I've always preferred that to space battles, really.

Though, now that I think of it, I've only seen, like, half of the movies. The first four were on Toonami, so I saw them there... and I have Tree of Might on DVD, too, only four bucks, how can you go wrong, I should have picked up some others too, but I digress. I've seen PARTS of 5 and 6, and I've seen 12 and 13 on Toonami, too, a few years back. So, yeah, only 'bout half of 'em.

Now that I think of it, anime-wise, I haven't seen much Dragonball at all. Nothing between the Red Ribbon Army Saga and the Ginyu Force Arc. And nothing after, I dunno, the earlier parts of the Super Buu Arc. And then all of GT, even the early, Black Star Arc. So I've seen more of GT, honestly, than the first Dragonball series. Isn't that sad? I should pick up those DVD sets, but I'm waiting to see how the Dragonbox goes because I'm a slave to consistancy. The fact they're releasing it by episode chunks over actual Saga Sets is irksome by itself, but that's the norm, so, whatever, I can deal.

Hey, what's the distinction between "Saga" and "Arc" anyways? I mean, I put Early Namek Arc, Ginyu Arc, and Freeza Arc as parts of an overarching Namek/Freeza Saga, but what about Dragonball? Is it the Pilaf Saga or the Pilaf Arc? The Red Ribbon Army Saga consists of, like, the Muscle Tower Arc, the Captain Blue Arc, and... actually, I don't quite remeraber what happens after that, I fell out during the Captain Blue Arc... I mean, I've read a good portion of the manga from early Dragonball, but I don't think I've ever seen/read the end of the Red Ribbon Saga. Nevermind. Like I was saying, parts of that Saga are Arcs, and they're longer than the first Saga! But can you be an Arc without being part of a Saga? And what do you call the separate series? So Episodes make up Arcs that make up Sagas that make up Series that make up Dragonball? It's like wacky Japanese molecules.

...what was I talking about? MOVIES! There we go. Yeah, so, I haven't seen a lot of the movies, but most of them seem kinda meh from what I've overheard and played in video games (because Christ nothing gets you familiar with a show like playing it over and over in three by-the-book fighting games). I do need to check out Bojack at some point, though. He seems pretty cool. But not as cool as Tullece.

Actually, Tullece is probably one of my favorite DBZ villains. I mean, objectively, he's not particularly interesting...
 
That's not sad at all. I think Jacob is the only person who I can name who has seen everything regarding Dragonball (if he has anyway) I'm sure most of us have seen it in parts and just found everything out later. I for one, still haven't seen a lot of Dragon Ball and a lot of the Buu saga (mainly because that thing went for waaaaaay too long. I'm sorry but it did)

This can be confusing too but I'll try to help.

The "Arcs" are the chapters focusing on one specific place that leaRAB into another one but is within the same "Saga." Saga's in Dragon Ball refer to the particular enemy that is being fought during that time. There are four sagas. Saiyan, Frieza, Android, Buu and within those are points that deal with the battles

Saiyan is considered it's own arc as that was the only enemy at the time. As for the others, in Frieza, there is Namek, Ginyu and Frieza. Android has Trunks, Android, Imperfect Cell, Perfect Cell and Cell Games. And Buu has Great Saiyaman, World Tournament, Babidi, Majin Buu, Fusion and Kid Buu.

I think FUNi refers to the arcs as Sagas and I believe back then they were considered that too but with Naruto, Bleach and One Piece having epic-long sagas and shorter stories in them, the meaning of Saga has become Arc.
 
First, Tulluece is a pretty cool guy. I love Nozawa's work with the character.

Second, for a while now I've dropped the term 'saga' in favor for '[story] arc', as saga really fits more or less as an all encompassing description (like, The Lord of the Rings saga, or the Dragon Ball saga). As for the groupings, for Dragon Ball I tend to use...

I have seen all of DB, DBZ and DBGT.

However, this whole thing has me needing to know if we will get the tv specials with the dragon boxes. Will we be getting everything except those?
 
While I have seen most of the Dragon Ball Z movies, I can't decide which one is my favorite.

However, I will say that Tree of Might has some very nice looking animation, especially the scene where the forest is restored.
 
I've got to give the edge to Movie 13 for having some serablance of a plot, even if at the end of the day it boiled down to Goku saving the day by punching the bad guy real hard in the face. (-: What can I say, the Link-like filler guy had a neat character design and it was nice seeing Chibi Trunks get treated as a character instead of just a comic relief monkey.

Bonus points to Movie 6 for being like DBZ crossed with Heavy Metal and Movie 7 for having a hilarious English dub that almost counts as an Abridged version (without any of the, y'know, abridging). The rest are all pretty fun except for Lord Slug, which I never cared for.
 
For me personally it's Movie 8, because of the plot and the intense fighting sequences in this one (plus the runtime, kinda nice to see a DBZ movie more than 60 minutes), and Movie 2, because of the awesome action sequences and just the overall pacing and usage of most of the main characters pre-Freeza Saga.
 
I choose Movie 2. That fight between Goku and brainwashed Piccolo was pretty good, the animation was fantastic and this would be the only time you see Muten Roshi fight in Z. One thing that bothers me, though. Why does Dr. Wheelo have such a big brain?
 
Because he's a genius, natch.

Seriously, though, that's a good question. I never really thought about it. He does have a rather large brain, doesn't he? O_o
 
Disregarding the English dub, because I have'nt seen and I only watched the Spanish version in which the dub was flawless in the movies and in the entire series, I think that my favorite has to be 13 one " Wrath of the Dragon ", because its not distant from the series time line and I like how it doesnt focus on Goku the entire movie even when he's the one that defeats the Villian as always, but in other characters, also the plot and animaton is awesome( liked way more than the animation in the special of one of two years ago)

Also I like how they beat the guy this time without the kamehameha or the genki-dama or "spirit borab" like they call it.
 
Sorry to spoil the day for some of you, but the whole "i dislike it when Goku saves the day. Goku, Goku, Goku, Goku" (instead of Marsha... get it?) It's HIS story. It's always been his story. It's not an enserable show. I think the other characters could stand to help a little more, but it was Goku's story from beginning to end. It's like complaining about Superman saving the day in a Superman story.
 
Except the whole thing of Toriyama basically setting Gohan up as his sucessor...doing so, and then magically deciding that Gohan doesn't fit well as main character (via the Shen Long Times from the Daizenshuu).

I know that Gohan was being set up to be that, but there's a reason why it never worked out that way. He just never connected as well with the audience.
 
There's not actually any proof of that. According to Toriyama (and I can check with Herms again if need be), he felt Gohan wasn't suited to be the main character...which doesn't really make sense to me, considering he continually gave him focus. The characterization begins to get sloppy during the Cell Games, though.


But, Dragon Ball Z films...uh, yeah! Great music from Kikuchi. Whee.
