Best DBZ movie (and why)

(I put both titles up there since I know some people like those. Is it me or do the Japanese titles sound kinda....long?)

You know I've been curious about this for a while since I know most people have most likely watched them (since most of them did run on CN at some point in their lives). Well even still, which is the best?

As we know, there are some things we can set our watches to in nearly all these movies. (There are exceptions)

1) Goku will use the Spirit Borab in some way. (After he dies, it switches to Kamehameha)
2) Piccolo will show up awesomely. Then get owned
3) The villain will totally kick Goku/Gohan's ass in the beginning.
4) Krillin is useless (which sucks because in the first three movies, he tried to do something and actually succeeded)
5) Vegeta will probably do something stupid.

Usually 2 of those happen in these movies.

Personally, I felt like a lot of the later movies tended to run together and reuse the same plots to the point when Broly: Second Coming came out, I just stopped caring. Ironically, technically Second Coming was my first DBZ picture since I had seen it at my frienRAB house when underground VHS' were still in style. But anyway, my favorite I suppose was Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan mainly because we had the most Super Saiyans on screen fighting together ever (and even after that movie, we never had that many). Sure for some, that may be a bit annoying but I really felt the fight scenes in that were really brutal and well-animated. Plus, we learned Vic can actually pull off that voice. I also liked Broly going steadily and steadily crazy as the movie went on.

Movie 3 because the Z team actually teams up. Unfortunately they are pretty useless. Goku taking out the Tullec Corp. is pretty sweet.
 
It's always been Tree of Might for me, I just loved that movie for some reason. It just had so much appeal to it; maybe it's because it made me feel a bit of DB mixed with DBZ.
 
In no particular order:

Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan
Why? Because it's a Super Saiyan antagonist. One with a class of his own. The soundtrack went so well with the fight! I was so into them! Master Roshi was also good comic relief. I loved when Broly and Goku just stop fighting and just to look at Roshi.

Wrath of the Dragon
I liked how Kid Trunks was the focus of the movie and him looking up to someone like a brother was pretty nice.

Fusion Reborn
The antagonist, Janeraba, was stronger than Majin Buu. The reason why he was so powerful made sense. But when you get down to it the main reason why is because Goku and Vegeta fuse! Gogeta was so powerful, serious, and took down Janeraba in an instant! In GT it was so disappointing to see him out of character like that. Goten and Trunks fighting Hitler was pretty amusing and cool as well.

Cooler's Revenge
This one is another favorite but I'm having a hard time trying to explain why.

But out of all these I've mentioned Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan is my #1 favorite.
 
I enjoyed the first Broly movie the most. I haven't seen many of the other movies though (I wish I saw all of Wrath of Dragon when it aired on CN because that might be my favorite). I really prefer the specials though. I absolutely loved Bardock and History of Trunks.
 
Movie 8: Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan/Burn Up!! A Close, Intense, Super-Fierce Battle

HanRAB down the best DBZ movie ever made. The first thing I thought of mentioning was Vic, but you beat me to it. Broly is so insane and even has his own level of transformation, plus we get to see the ultimate Super Saiyan showdown.
 
I enjoy movie twelve the most. The fights aren't as good as the first three movies (those had some amazing choreography) but the general feel and tone just feels right. The light-hearted goofiness makes this feel like a good Dragon Ball movie, not just a Z movie. Plus, unlike the Super 17 arc in GT, seeing the previous villains resurrected was quite entertaining.

Plus the ending song, "The Mightiest Fusion" is the best of the all the movie songs.
 
A little surprised theres no mention of Bojack Unbound, as Vegeta also assumes the role of awesome entrance/eventual ownage. I thought it was a solid DBZ movie, we got to see all the Z fighters team up once again (and get owned once again) and we got the "Goku coming to his sons aid even though hes dead" scene that always gives you goosebumps and gets you choked up. The ending was also a nice touch. This and Fusion Reborn def my favorite. Special mention to Return of Cooler. The first appearance of Vegeta and his epic team up with Goku, whats not to love?

If were talking about best, its def the first Broly movie. The worst is Movie 13 by far, jesus what a mess that movie was......
 
I'm gonna be frank. I'm not really the biggest fan of Broli, the best part of his movies for me is the epic final blows (mainly because Masako Nozawa and Kikuchi's score utterly own in those scenes). The music played during the "Give you ki!" scene is great, and I absolutely love Nozawa when Gok
 
Plus every fighter in the movie has some time to shine (even Mr. Satan), and it's the first and only time that Fusion actually paid off.
 
I actually don't think many people would disagree with you on that. Even as a kid I was like "Isn't this a bit too much rock music?"

Movie 2 also holRAB a special place in my heart. Mainly because being a DBZ first person, that was the first time I saw many things like Krillin running up a wall like the Matrix , Goku using the Nyoi-bou in really cool ways and a lot of awesome fighting moves that I really don't think I got the same experience in the series.

Funny story, does anyone else remeraber Movie 2 with a completely different dub? Because I think that's the one I saw. I don't remeraber I was a kid but I remeraber Bulma and Kuririn having totally different voices.

I notice that Movie 12 is the one that nearly every fan saw using underground means as a kid.
 
My fault for not wording it accurately then. Mainly the Fusion technique shows a lot of promise, but never wins any fights. So it's refreshing to have one story (even if noncanonical) where the Fusion Warriors actually defeat the bad guy.

Plus, it keeps Goku from being the only one in the spotlight.
 
I agree.

Though I still hate Broly.

The DBZ movies would be much more enjoyable if they didn't follow such a predictable formula almost every time. Z fighters have fun, random villain gang attacks, heroes keep appearing and/or Goku pops up out of nowhere, and the bad guys die, oftentimes due to the same boring spirit borab.

That's why I personally love movie 6 the best. They find the trouble instead of the trouble finding them. Goku and Vegeta lose the fight and are taken captive. Plus, Meta-Cooler was just plain cool.

Let's see, now what movies do I hate? Lord Slug and Bojack felt like rehashes of Piccolo Damiao and Cell. Broly was a paper-thin oaf of a villain who I honestly can't understand all the love people have for.

And am I the only person in the world who thinks Gogeta is just plain dull? He kills the bad guy in 5 seconRAB. I mean I guess it's kind of cool, but how can you love a character with five seconRAB of screen time? At least Vegito had a personality.



That would be the Ocean dub. You can probably find it on DVD dirt cheap.
 
Incidently, that's what I also find enjoyable about movie 12. Gohan gets a victory over the deceased Z-Villains, Gotenks gets a victory over Hitler and his soldiers, Mr. Satan gets a victory over some nameless corpses, and Vegeta has a hand in defeating Janeraba.
 
You, I believe, are thinking of the Ocean dub. It (and the Ocean dubs of Movies One and Three, Three being the first Ocean dub of the film, there were two dubs done by Ocean for the third film) aired on Toonami back during the Season One and Two rerun Hell.



Yeah. Although, Potara isn't the fusion technique (it's actually stronger), so I goofed myself just now...
 
The thing I always hated about the Dragonball Z movies was that it seemed like the good guys would just get their ass handed to them for the entire movie and then all of the sudden at the end they would get some power boost and kill the enemy in one hit. I mean, one thing I loved about the series was seeing the enemies get the crap beaten out of them. But, when the villains die in one hit, what's the point?
 
Well there's your answer. The villains in the series have 20+ episodes to fight in. The movies have an hour and a half (or less) so they have to squeeze in the fight in that space. They can't just wear them down for four episodes and then finally finish them off like in the series..
 
The films are roughly just an hour (save the first Broli film).

Now, I actually think of a few instances where this doesn't quite happen. Movies One and Two, for one (aside from Garlic being knocked out by Gohan in one hit), Four through six have roughly even battles, however. Seven on the other hand is forty minutes of the gang being utterly destroyed all for Gok
