Best contrast in daylight photography/Best night photography?

I use a Canon G10 and recently realized that when taking photography in sunny weather, I often have to increase the contrast and sharpness in the editing tool for most, if not all photos. It's amazing how much difference this makes in my photos!
Is there a better, less time consuming way to do this such as a setting on the camera, etc?

As well, for night photography, what is the optimal setting on the G10? I have a tripod, and know to use less than 200. But with the slower(?) shutter speeds, the movement is blurred.

Any info is appreciated, thanks!
I'm an amateur photographer, so I pretty much just fiddle with the settings.
I think I found there was too much 'noise' in the pictures I took with higher ISO. But, I will try the higher again for night shots.

Why are you using ISO 200 or below for night shots?. If you are doing a very long exposure (for example streaking tail lights of cars) then ISO 100 or 200 would be ideal. But for normal low light photography and if you wish to capture any action without motion blur then you are going to have to use a higher ISO.

Think about it, ISO 100/200 is used for bright daylight conditions, I use ISO 800 for low light.
