I am wondering, since all of you have back pain, what computer chair you personally have found to be the best. I have a desk job, and right now I just use a regular dining chair with a thin cushion. (To read more about my back pain, look down for the thread "Extreme Butt Pain/Tightness")

Hi, I haven't found the right chair yet but if I could make one it would be like this: Hard sitting surface but in a U-Shape with the opening being in the back; a very tall back that is soft, but firm, with a lurabar suppport and a neck support; it would be highly adjustable in chair height, as well as the back should be adjustable; should have arm rests, ohhh and a small foot rest that comes out in the front; and has to be on wheels to be able to push, pull, or move oneself around in all directions. I think if there was such a thing, that might be my perfect chair for sitting at a desk all day.

Wow Bay.. that is the perfect chair indeed! Whew.

But, this is one of those things that is an individual need and comfort. Depending on your body, your posture, the desk or table you use, the surface of the floor, etc. Im small, so I need a chair that doesnt have great depth to it otherwise, I have no back support and puts undue stress on my legs.

Many people use executive style chairs as a computer chair. This is may be comfortable for reading, but it not normally a chair that provides proper posture for use at a computer for any length of time.

Unless you get one custom made for you, an off the shelf type neeRAB to be fully adjustable in height, depth, vertical/horizontal pitch, and have armrests that are also adjustable and rolls easily. Then you have a better chance of adjusting it properly for your specific need.

Good luck.

I've found 2 that I think look really good. The one (first one) is WAY WAY over what I could spend, but looks really awesome.

Stance Angle Chair by Health Postures (the chair along with the Task Mate ajustable workarea is about $2400!!!)

AeroMotion chair by Swing Seat/Accord ($349 for new; $299 for refurb)

I have an office type chair in which I alternate between perching at the front with my knees tucked under and leaning back in with a heating pad behind me. My kiRAB bought it for me for my birthday last year, when it became apparent that sitting would forever be painful for me. I went to the office supply store and spent several hours lounging in every chair there until I narrowed it down to a few, then spent longer in those until I found the best one. Everyone's different, so what works for me might not be so comfortable for you. I hope you can actually sit in those chair before you have to spend the money. Some of the chairs I thought looked really comfortable were the worst ones. The one I decided on was one that I only sat in because I was going to try them all. I would have bypassed it otherwise, as it didn't look as comfortable as a lot of the others.

Hope you find your dream chair!
Emily

Did you ever notice in some stores they have their chairs sitting on top of large shelves? Or not all of them out to sit on and try? I noticed this a few times around here around xmas time. I was able to go shopping a bit since I just had an ESI, and wanted to look for a chair. I couldnt even try many of them out. It's kind of the same concept as this...ever notice that many stores who carry back pain products and pills, it's all on teh bottoms shelves????? What sense does it make to have chairs available to buy that you cannot sit on first; and what sense does having back pain products on the bottom shelf make??

Hi

I use a full length back computer chair with arm rests and padded head an neck rest and i find it really comfy.

I used to work on the computer at home so spent alot of time in it and also made sure i got up an stretched my legs every now and again.

I think it is a very individual thing as to what suits you and your condition.

If you're game for a kneeling chair, I bought a pretty good one with temperpedic foam in it by Jobri. I think it cost about 200. I switch between that and an ergonomic chair that work bought for me. It's quite comfortable, but if I use it all day it bothers my knees.
