I thought the car chase in Basic Instinct was pretty good. It had me on the edge of my seat. Pretty tame in comparison with most though.

Ronin. Fantastic and realistic chase. Or for dafter, more action orientated chases you can't beat Michael Bay. Bad Boys 2 springs immediately to mind.

Matrix Reloaded are you kidding, they asked about a car chase, not a CGI chase, give me a break don't get me wrong, I liked all the Matrix films, but 'Best Car Chase in the movies'

This isn't really a car chase as such (sorry) but the scene in "A View To A Kill" when Roger Moore as James Bond Jumps in the Taxi & chases Grace Jone's character who is wearing a parachute.

The French Connection- The best 'car' chase (well, car/train chase).

Transporter 2 - The most ludicrous car chase. The laughable way he knocks the bomb off the car.

Anyone remember a film called Freebie and the Bean? That had some impressive car and bike chases as I recall. Hasn't been in telly for ages though.

Blues Brothers obviously - both through the mall and the chase to the end.

The Jag/Aston chase in 'The World Is Not Enough' was also very well done with two beautiful cars and a great setting.
