Best Camera?

Hi,

Well, it's that time again - phone upgrade!

Basically, the only thing I need a new one for is camera functions, both image and video. At the moment I'm considering the Nokia N95 or the Sony Ericsson K800i. I know the Ericsson has a Xenon flash on it but the N95 video is better quality and I'm not sure how often the flash will come in handy.

So first question is what would people suggest, and the second is whether there's anything on the horizon (ie. next couple of months) that would be better to wait for?

Cheers all!

plain and simple if u want to wait
wait for sophia
if u want cheaper and pretty good get the k800i
but if u want the best and you have deep pockets get the n95

That imobile looks interesting but I'm talking about phones available in the UK on contract, preferably on Orange although I'd move for the right handset or deal (or talk to retentions, haha) - have no intention of importing a phone.

you can always wait, there is going to be a nokia n82, but it depends how long you want to wait and if the wait will be worth it

xenon flash would be helpful if you happen to take a lot of low light pics.

Wow, the N82 looks beautiful - unlike the Sophia/K850i which looks like total crap. But Q4 2007 is a pretty long time, if I were to upgrade now I'd be over half way through the contract by the time it's released, thus making the eventual upgrade to it even cheaper.

That N82 is the first phone I've looked at recently and actually been wowed by - the N95 seems a bit like a missed opportunity (and the video quality really isn't DVD-like, so I don't know how they're getting away with saying that). It's more like a prototype to better phones to come and the K800i is just getting on a bit now and possibly not really worth upgrading to.

best camera? i doubt anything can beat the Samsung SCH-B600 n95 has 50% less raw pixels than the Samsung.

but why have a good camera phone when you can have a good SLR camera

Again, that Samsung looks amazing but it's not exactly a standard choice.

SLR cameras are bulky as hell and inconvenient unless you're a professional or enthusiast. For personal and "of the moment" pictures, a mobile phone with a camera is a huge convenience.

As I said before, pricing is not an issue as we can get all these phones for free in the UK on contracts.

Looks like the consensus is N95 or wait for the N82 - was pretty much expecting that, but wasn't sure. The only reason I really questioned it was because the N95 is really a bit of a letdown after all the hype.
