"Best Buy Theatre in, Nokia out"

So they lost the nameing rights to the theatre, now they can wisely use that money they saved to further promote the C6 right?...

Doesn't make sense to advertise in the States the way Nokia does. Their advertising campaign in most of the world is predicated on selling an incumbent brand, much as Coca-Cola does. They sell concepts and feelings associated with the brand as opposed to specific products. But they're not an incumbent in the States anymore so it gets them nowhere and it costs a lot. I suspect that they're going to shift strategies in the States to one that advertises specific products and capabilities moreso than one that advertises the brand. Most Americans associate Nokia with "MEH!" so why would they want to effectively pay to plaster "MEH!" all over the place?

When they have products to sell to Americans, expect to see TV ads showcasing them specifically, IMO.

I can't understand why I see Nokia phones on popular shows, but they get no advertising screen shots of it being a Nokia phone. A character on Burn Notice (USA) uses an E71. The main character on Covert Affairs (also USA) uses the new X6. I notice only because I'm familiar with these phones, but they never really show that they are Nokia phones. Why wouldn't Nokia capitalize on this? I would pay these shows to produce a screen shot or something to show everyone watching what kind of phone it really is.

Marketing is useless if the company does not a quality product,
Just take the uk market for instance, nokia advertises almost everywhere, at heathrow on tv, posters on the street. Yet their constantly losing marketshare here to apple and rim. Hell you get laughed at if your still using an s6o phone, quite frankly it has become quite embarrassing.

I think most Nokia fans will concede that the company's strong holds are emerging markets, parts of Asia the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Besides the U.S., I think they've also pretty much lost Western Europe and Japan.

Meego is probably their shot in competing in the markets they've lost in. We'll see, I guess.

Q1 2011 will be too late.
Has anyone questioned what will happen once meego and s^4 hits Since both will break legacy app support, how will that affect marketshare nokia will no longer be king of the hill.

Your phone isn't what you should be embarrassed about, with the grammar you're packing.

All mindshare/marketshare/presence aside, "Best Buy Theater" is a horrible name.

I'm sure Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas probably has a different phone for each day of the week, while 'her people' set up her appearances on the standard business-oriented Blackberries. I knew a guy who knew a guy who was part of LL Cool J's entourage/publicity team, and that's the way they rolled.

Oh, and almost all of them use Macs.

I no longer use a s60 device, thank you very much, as to my grammar had a little too much to drink during lunch.

still, within my circle if you are using s60, well...:lol:

So, that would be just another reason I'm glad I'm not in your circle.

BTW is that a tv remote in you signature. Your mother must be proud.

the "remote" controls the sound system on the deck

and to anwser your question, yes my mother is very proud :2thumbs:.

IMHO it was a waste of time having naming rights on a theater when they really didn't have any competitive product to sell. The company has zero mindshare here and most people remember Nokia as the ones that made those 5xx phones in the 90s. It's like the local electric utility putting their name up on the theater. No loss. Better to put the money towards making good product.

I'm not sure if most S60 buyers even use/used their phones as smartphones. I guess they are phones with screens and most people equate a big phone with a powerful phone. They look good. Right now I think they realize that they need one development platform to start their whole library from scratch on both platforms simultaneously. So they picked QT.

They better play it like Apple: release killer device, get some buzz, attract development. I wonder if they can execute that. They need that "next big thing". I can't imagine that will be given Android by then will have an WebOS level UI and have the software flexibility that Meego would have. It better be big or people will be buying again phones with big screens and no apps. That may work in some limited communities, but it sure won't work where people need specific apps to get things done.

I agree, they need to kick start some development or this whole thing will be pointless for most of us.

Well, yeah, I assume the Finns at Nokia know that they're racing against the clock. They pretty much have *one year* to get things going in the right direction (before Android really makes a play in emerging markets with low end devices from Chinese white box manufacturers).

I believe the main idea here is to get more high end market back, not low end. They are largest manufacturer still in UK, Germany and Europe in general.
Anything they can get from NA is plus from them at this point.

Yeah, but their brand is knocked into the dirt in the U.S. They basically have to start over/reboot here, sort of like an aging movie franchise.

May I suggest, 'Nokia Begins' ?
