Best Buy NOT stocking Gurren Lagann part 2 DVDs

Berserk has been pushed back until March. rab announced this last week.

Also, if you read the last post, appearantly BB is no longer carrying Lucky Star due to poor sales, but will continue to carry Code Geass.

On my visit to Plaza Las Americas today, I saw f.y.e. plastic bags, so that means that there is an f.y.e. in there, yes!

The bad news is that I couldn't localize it, so I'll try on the next visit.

Well, at least I'm ready, should Best Buy disminish a title I could like in the future.

You know what I think that's put GL in a bad possition is actually the fact that Bandai already released it sub-only and the special edition dub boxset probably didn't meet their high expectations so a good and popular title like Gurren Lagann was looking less desirable to keep on shelves... Really they shouldn't have pulled GL but oh well.

BTW, fromw hat I've been told, Code Geass will be the only Bandai series Best Buy will continue to sell in stores.

Oh, and One Piece, Hell Girl, and any store that does not have Ouran Vol 2, will not be getting them, for those are now going to be online only titles. I also think Baccano! is going to be online only now.

So I just went to a local Best Buy yesterday... holy cow. The anime section looked... gutted. I really don't know how else to describe it. I would wager it was half the size of normal, and most of what was left were proven sellers like Black Lagoon, Bleach, Death Note, etc.. That's not a good sign.

I think we're going to see their sections for anime DVRAB severely cut back on singles and limited editions, as well as niche titles (which I find hilarious that Lucky Star is considered, from a sales standpoint).

Which means more thinpaks and titles that are big hits/on tv.

yeah best buy said they would cut back on what anime to sell. So I guess That means tv anime. Maybe too many anime companies overship their titles that aren't popluar and just sit on the shelves. This will be hard on smaller companies like media blasters, and ADV

However, almost nothing is on TV anymore so anime doesn't have a chance to get big hits anymore. When not even Naruto Shippudden looks like it's going to go on TV there's something horrifically wrong. I think this cutback may transform into a full-blown phaseout unless the industry gets back on its feet . . .

Code Geass' special editions contains the first OST if I remeraber right, so if you're interested in that . . .

If the anime subindustry really does eventually collapse, we'll still be seeing releases, but you'd better believe we'll see an increase in cheaply released sub-only discs and online exclusive releases.

I think the stock depenRAB on the Best Buy store and mine I wouldn't necessarily call gutted, but there is certainly an effort to cut prices and clear old stock. I mean, they are selling the entire Phoenix series for $20 (gah, I should see if it's still there). There are definitely many more sets compared to the singles that used to be everywhere, which I think is no surprise to anybody.

Is there more favor toward Funi at Best Buy, their cutting back notwithstanding? Could be. They had 7-8 copies of Story of Saiunkoku part 2 in stock, which had a street date of Deceraber 16th. In contrast part 3 of Toward the Terra--an earlier release--was nowhere to be found, and I was informed by customer service that there were no other stores in my area from which they could get it. In fact, even the website lists it as backordered. So now I will probably be resorting to Amazon or Rightstuf when I would have been willing to pay the $20+ to get it at the Best Buy store.

Another anecdote: They had a copy of the complete Kaleido Star collection (first season + New Wings) that was released in mid-October, an ADV rerelease that was very close to Toward the Terra's release date.

So, BEI may well have some issues here. That said, I did notice that they had a good amount of Code Geass in stock. I was able to snap up part 2 (Dec 9th release) for $30. I'll be interested to see if part 3 is readily available in early February.

On another note, I couldn't help noticing a copy of the original Samurai 7 Box selling for $80 mere inches away from the infinitely cheaper Virdian collection. I'd venture to guess that this item would win the award for "least likely DVD product to sell" in Best Buy's Arlington store, if such a thing actually existed.

When I went in Best Buy last sunday, it mas more of the usual, all of the Bandai stuff is there.

Although, for some reason, Lucky Star vol. 5 wasn't there, nor When They Cry vol. 6 (although that was on Spec's, when I went to Plaza Las Americas).

Why? Lucky Star was released in Jan. 6, and that date was a holiday here, so it was possibly delayed for a week.

So, as I thought, looks like I'm probably going to end up ordering Lyrical Nanoha off of amazon . . . ditto for a couple of other niche titles I've been thinking about.

Bleh, if they'd just find some way to get rid of all the damn Naruto boxes that are just taking up space (seriously, three shelves worth at mine and you never see any holes that indicate someone bought one) there'd be plenty of room.

It's more efficient if the little anime they actually sell only goes to the store that neeRAB it. No need to send out 20 copies to 20 stores if 1 copy to 1 store is all that sells.

No, Best Buy stopped carrying Lucky Star due to low sales, and fortunately I went to FYE to buy it

Shadow Wolf is right, I feel the same way, and can totally sympathize with her situation, why do we niche anime watchers have to suffer?

And honestly I despise NARUTO (and most generic shounen manga/anime in general) with a passion
