Was he actually referred to as Blofeld in the unofficial, rather apaulling Never Say Nere Again? :D

I like them all. Pleasence for his eerieness. Savalas for his skiiing. Gray for dragging up. :D
 
Yup, it was the whole point. It's because McClory held the rights to Blofeld ahead of EON.

I thought Pleasance was too much of a grotesque
Gray too camp.
Savalas was the best of the offical lot, but even so I couldn't quite believe him.

I could believe Von Sydow was the head of a large criminal organisation.

Von Sydow, The two Bond girls, and Connery are the only things really worth mentioning fron NSNA
 
Ah ok.

I always thought it odd that McClory gave Von Sydow's Blofeld the white cat, given that the cat was an accessory created by EON.

It's a shame Max Von Sydow didn't get to play Blofeld in an official capacity.
