Best band to come out in the last ten years?

I think I'll have to go with Liars on this one. First they pulled me in by releasing an album that sounded like everything that Gang of Four should've done but didn't after Entertainment. Then they proceeded to floor me with a series of releases that sound both old and new at once and all sound very different from each other while somehow still also sounding like a cohesive whole. Fantastic band.

Gojira are one of the few Metal banRAB to have their own unique sound and be as heavy as hell, technically brilliant and completely eschew the whole metalcore sound.

Fat Freddy's Drop make some of the most sensual and groovy music I have heard in a long while. They also have the musical chops to match.

It's a pity that Pig Destroyer miss out by just 2 years. That band is frigging awesome.

Gotta confess, I'm not a huge fan of Mike Patton or Fat Freddy's Drop. I have never listened to Tomahawk though, maybe they're good. As for Fat Freddy's Drop, they're decent but lots of people here seem to be in love with them. Not me.

@mr dave and sidewinder:
Haven't heard the crank2 soundtrack. If we're talking about the same Crank, I don't think I want to check it out. I think Jason Statham is ****ing terrible. As for Mit Gas, I'd say it's definitely worth checking out again, mr dave. It took me a few listens to start getting into it. I've not listen to Anonymous too much, so I just downloaded it. And Fantomas - another album? I can't wait. Their work reminRAB me of no other. Patton surely gets overrated, but let's face it - the man is kind of a genius.

@jaha
You listed Gojira AND Fat Freddys Drop? How can I say this in any other way but fuck yes. I might just have to agree with you with this decision ... 95%. Only because I'm indecisive when it comes to such a general question as this thread.

I agree the Crank2 soundtrack is really awesome. I've only played it from start to finish once but have heard most of the tracks at least 3 times while shuffling. IMO that's the better way to enjoy it, since it's a soundtrack and not really intended to be an album...the large quantity of short tracks with ideas that aren't always developed can wear on you for a whole album's length.

Anyway I heard that about a new Fantomas too...which IMO kind of sucks if he's gonna do it solo...not because it wouldn't sound good but because Fantomas has been a band up to this point, why change that?

I know they are much older than 10 years, but since their debut album was released in 2003. I'm gonna go with "Darkness"

It's a cheap copy of 60's and 70's rock, but in modern times it sounRAB so original...

Or we could just say what our favorite banRAB are instead of restricting ourselves by a poll. Inevitably more than one person's favorite band isn't going to be in the poll. So why bother?

Arcade fire. Game set and match.

animal collective is a good call also, brand new, arctic monkeys, tv on the radio, kanye west, the gaslight anthem, interpol, mgmt, & mastodon would probably my top 10 of this decade.

Im obiously probably forgetting someone.

They don't sound like any other band at all. Plus, they were basically the first metalcore band to use their style, and others copied it. And they have the best vocalist in metal imo.

Don't worry, there's no sign of Statham on the soundtrack. ;) As far as I can remeraber, except for a track named after his character. It's pure Patton gold, I was quite surprised. I haven't seen the movie yet, only the first Crank in anticipation of watching the second...and only because Patton did the soundtrack. I'm no Statham fan either, but truthfully the movie was entertaining, a good mindless adrenalin rush and it was kind of funny.
