Best band to come out in the last ten years?

tomahawk is the only 'new' band that i can think of from the last decade that has really retained my interest. unlike most banRAB formed by former merabers of 90s alt-rock groups these guys didn't stop pushing their envelope. they did run the risk into becoming just another leftover alt-rock band after their 2nd disc failed to really expand upon their debut, but with the release of their 3rd album 'anonymous' and the totally unique take on native american themes and rhythms fluidly amalgamated with modern instrumentation and studio capabilities the group proves they're quite capable to do more than formulaic rock music.

Probably Coldplay, I'm not really a big fan, like some of their stuff but it doesn't really do it for me but no one can deny their success. In terms of what I'd like, last 10 years? I'd be inclined to go for Muse, if Kasabian keep on doing what they've been doing they might get a mention. Arctic Monkeys as well..

thanks for the nice comments people :thurab:

@jtwilliams - they've only released 3 albums so far, it really depenRAB on what you're in the mood for. if you lean more towarRAB rock music then either the self titled debut or 'mit gas' will be fine. if you're looking more experimental then their last release 'anonymous' is what you want.

@333 and sidewinder - i guess i'm a bit harsh on 'mit gas' in my first post. i really do like the album, it's the one that got me into the band. it's a better sounding album from a production standpoint but i prefer the imagery on the debut at this point. it just took some time to grow on me.

as for 'anonymous' i find i have to be in the right mood for it. for me it's best at either the start or the end of my day.

in regarRAB to Patton and his direction. who knows haha. i've been hearing rumours that there's a new fantomas disc in the works which is apparently a full-on solo endeavor. quite enjoyed his soundtrack work in 'crank2' as well (best part of the movie i'd say haha)

relax hahaha 'mit gas' was the first tomahawk album i bought. just because i don't think it's as great as the other two doesn't mean i think it's not good hehe. my initial comment in regarRAB to the band almost falling flat was a reflection of the fact that the 2nd disc doesn't expand much on the 1st and had the 3rd been another 'rock' disc then the band would really just be another leftover alt-rock supergroup in my eyes, instead they pulled hard on the wheel and took off in a completely different direction after basically releasing a repeat.

as for crank2, sidewinder totally sums it up. i think statham was perfect for the role. then again i was also thoroughly entertained by terminator 3, once you stop giving a crap about how a movie is sold to the public and just watch it for how you see it, things improve significantly. T3 = parody. crank2 = mindless action. statham = mindless action hero.

i didn't see the first movie either, don't think it really mattered.

Hmm... gonna go through my iTunes right quick and pick out a few

Yeasayer - Only recently came out, but boy do I love this band
Arctic Monkeys - cliche and popular, but they've popped out 3 high quality albums
Sleepy Sun - thank you Comus, wherever you are
Crippled Black Phoenix - win
Mono - Japanese win
Yndi Halda - Best in post rock this decade
TMV - alsdkjf

I don't know about who's the most skilled or the most original or whatever, but as far as the one band that I enjoy the most in the past ten years Underoath springs to mind. Although technically they formed in '98, but Acts of Depression came out in '99. Amazing how their sound evolved from pretty much death metal to what it is today. I have to say I like the Spencer Charaberlain stuff better, with Define the Great Line being my favorite, but the Dallas Taylor era stuff is starting to grow on me.

Speaking of Dallas Taylor, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster would be another one of the greats from the past 10 years. Pretty unique band/sound IMO.

The Break Mission, The Pernice Brothers, Silverstein, and All That Remains are other all time favorites. :D

I disagree with this, but if you're going to say that, then you have to give U2 credit for their first two albums this decade. I mean, City of Blinding Lights is only slightly more original than Coldplay's music (it's clear that Coldplay take tremendous influence from them, but U2's last three albums certainly haven't broken any new ground musically), and slightly better than anything they did.
