Best band to come out in the last ten years?

Can't be bothered to think of a full list for the moment, so I'll half-answer the thread's question in the medium of song and dance...

I agree, a poll would be great but at the moment there isn't much common ground on what band has been the best to come out in the past ten years.

I'm afraid I'd get in trouble for having to consecutive posts with facepalm pictures but...yeah.

I think when it comes down to quality and originality, it would be Sigur Ros, but this is a very hard question to answer subjectivley.

Tomahawk fan here! :wavey: I like Mit Gas quite a bit actually, sometimes more than the debut. Anonymous never really did much for me. The playing is superb, I just can't really get into the Native American vocals, unfortunately. I need to give it another try. I too wonder where they'll go next, if anywhere because as you said Patton is involved in so much stuff, there's no guarantee of any new material from any of his projects.

But to the subject at hand...I wouldn't say they are my favorite or best band to come out this decade. I think I would have to give that spot to The Mars Volta, honestly. They're not necessarily my favorite band, but one that's had the most impact on me this decade.

Wow this is really hard, there's so many choices if I could start in 1998. Mice Parade is unique and original, and their discography is diverse so they're always fun to listen to. Dalek is ****ing great, same with DOOM. However, all of these artists formed in 1998.

For the last 10 years, my personal favorites (not considering best in terms of influence or popularity:

Animal Collective
Dirty Elegance put out two fantastic albums
Alias is dank
Defiance, Ohio
Gorillaz
School of Seven Bells (though they've only released one album)
The Shins
The Unicorns kicked ass, they weren't around long but they were damn good.

The last 10 years... for me some of my personal favourites would have to be Karnivool or Cog. Also honorable mentions to The Cat Empire and Fat Freddy's Drop. These are just some of my choices.

Pick as many as you want, if they are nominated 2 more times then they should get on the poll. I think whoever is organizing the poll should start counting to see who's already obtained a spot, someone who isn't me.

It's pretty hard to just pin it down to one.

Gorillaz had an fresh take on the trip hop sound. Coldplay and Muse both showed that you don't have to be completely original to make good music. And of the banRAB that came out of the post punk revival the notably ones are Arctic Monkeys, Interpol, TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Franz Ferdinand. From the dance section of the music spectrum LCD SounRABystem, The Rapture, and Hot Chip.
