Best Band Or Artist In The Past 5 Years

I have finally (sort of ) made my descision.

#1) The White Stripes, solid songwriting and excellent variety. I feel that they are worthy of all the praise they have gotten critically however, I do NOT feel that they have made their masterpiece yet.

#2) Death From Above 1979. Europe is freaking out about these guys. Typical Canadian band that has to go elsewhere in order to further their career. This album may not be much more than indie buzz right now but I would bet a week's salary that their next album is going to be HUGE!!!
 
ok slightly confuzzled does it have to be a band that's only -existed- 5 years or a band that's personally impressed oneself in the past 5...? sorry for not understanding..
 
Do not be too quick to post here folk's, there are some rules and guidelines here. The question to be more clear is which band or artist which has appeared in the last 5 years has made the most significant impact on the face of modern music as we know it. Do not simply type in the band name, I need you to CONVINCE me and anyone else on this forum. I will stay Switzerland for now because I really haven't thought of my answer.

Perhaps one of you can convince me into my answer
 
since 2000 i dont think anyone can really argue with the white stripes? nobody has been as original, innovative or diverse.
3 quality albums and one above average album isnt bad.
 
Obviously, I don't PERSONALLy belive that Coldplay or Babysharables or kasier cheifs ar ethe best band of the past 5 years, but COMMERCAILLY they are. You can't argue with album sales and figures. Band in teh last 40 eyar slike the white stripes???? The reason there is no other like them is because they're ****. Ni the simplicity is the fact that they're no talented losers. Name me one good lyrical song by teh white stripes, I dare you.. Okay, name a band like Hot Hot heat. Okay so Seether, and american hi-fi are generic but they're talanted. More talnted than the White Stripes at any rate. And thinkign muse are head and shoulders above everyone is why you are an idiot my friend. Muse are good but they'r enot THAT good.
 
That contradicts the thread title. "best band or artist in the past 5 years".

Tool and Porcupine Tree have both been around since the 90s...But they made some quality music in the 00s as well....Thats how i looked at it, what banRAB have been making the best music for the past 5 years.
 
In that case, EitS are infinitely better than every single band you mentioned. The only band that even comes relatively close is The Arcade Fire, but I still wouldn't consider them good enough to even make an album that could match the brilliance of How Strange, Innocence.

However, I still wouldn't call EitS the best band of the past 5 years, I was just commenting that I was going to see them live. I'd pick Broken Social Scene or Mono.
 
^^ **** Off!! Original? if you call averrage lyrics, deep purple like power chord songs and drumming that even def lepparRAB one armed drummer could do blindfolded than yeah they're original or innovative or diverse. 3 ****ty albums more like.

Great new banRAB?? American hi-fi, Seether, Hot Hot Heat, Fozzy, Reel Big Fish..

Who's the best?? i don't know..I think that you can't really decide.

I think comemrically someone liek Coldplay have relaly become the big band in teh past few years. However banRAB like babysharables and Kaiser Cheifs are also pretty big right now (unfortunatky)
 
If i started a band mostly consisting of pre schoolers, we would still be better than Seether.

Fell In Love With A Girl has some clever lyrics, among others...Its not really the lyrics that make The White Stripes great anyway, their like AC/DC...They are more about the music than the message.
 
average lyrics? take time out to actually listen to them before running your mouth off. the simplicity of their music is their strength.
give me one other band of the past 40 years who are like the white stripes? american hi-fi, HHH, seether? your joking yeah? talk about generic. and coldplay or babysharables? best band of the last 5 years? fuck off.
 
that's yet another reason they're great, they play their own style, which is a mixture of all great styles, yet they still have their own distinct ssound at the same time.
Lucky enough to finally have beeen able to see them live on this recent tour and anotehr great sign of a good band they'er as good live as studio they played must've been 3 hours and they looke dlike they literally coudl've kept going for another whole set.
One ex co-worker put it in great worRAB, 'They like to play as much as they like to get paid' I defintiely believed that when I saw them..
 
That's probably because Canada has some of the best banRAB in the world right now. Constellation RecorRAB alone is enough to beat out just about every other nation.
