Best asian horror film?

I didn't care much for Audition. It was ok, a bit nasty in places if I remember right.

There was a film by the same director on telly the other night. Something about getting messages on your mobile and then dying. It's all become so old hat now. It wasn't a very good film IMO.
 
A Tale of Two Sisters is an all time favourite; psychological horror with clever twists. The nonchalant violence at the end of Audition was chilling and memorable though overall not a great movie.
 
It was alright, but yeah, definitely not one of his best. I love Miike- Visitor Q may not be horror, but it's sure as shit REALLY f*cked-up.

Ring, Dark Water, Versus, Ju-On... Cello's another really good one.

Surprised nobody's mentioned R-Point, an awesome Korean horror movie set during the Vietnam war, which is supremely creepy.

Another good one's Takashi Shimizu's Marebito; very unsettling.

Also, not strictly horror, I guess, but anyone who's into extreme Asian cinema might be interested to know that Shinya Tsukamoto has just made a third Tetsuo film, The Bullet Man.
 
Jumping back a bit in time, so much has stemmed from 60s Japanese classics Onibaba and it's lesser-spotted progeny Kuroneko. Films that make black and whiteness scary in itself, without anything actually needing to happen!

Would definitely second nominations for Tale Of Two Sisters and Uzumaki.

Not strictly on topic but anyone interested in J horror has a duty to watch the original (not the "Ultimate" remake) cartoon series Hellsing. Have a couple of beers, turn up the sound and just lose yourself in its jazz/pulp ambience. Awesome.
 
Ringu is a must watch.

The original Dark Water did nothing for me. Have got it on DVD, but have only watched it the once.

The Grudge series is well worth a look, especially the first one.
