Best argument an Atheist can say in a debate?

my views

what is god? A supreme being? the creator of the universe? The perfect ideal we should all strive to become?

I consider myself an atheist. I have come to this through the conflict of free will versus determinism. determinism is the belief that all choices one makes are already determined. If one examines their own actions they will find that they all have reasons. Some actions will have reasons such as experiences or genetics. The more sporadic actions will have reasons such as neurons. These, experiences, neurons, genetics, are all out of our control, so really all of our actions are out of control.

One can say God exists even when knowing this. Their argument would most likely be God has will and intention, and since he was the first thing he doesn'tt have experiences, genetics, neuronss controlling him. I would then propose: Then why does God do what he does if he has no reason to do it?

However if one's God was the the catalyst that stimulated the universe, then I would agree with them.

Another point that I have against most views of a god is the moral perspective. I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as altruism. Everyone has their own agenda and acts on their own accord. In other words people do what they want. People who are considered "altruistic", all have selfish reasons or reasons that do not pertain to altruism for doing the things they do. A person simply uses altruism as a means to the end that they wish. A person would be "altruistic" for reasons such as: It makes them feel good, it makes them look good, It would relieve their conscience, it would bring them salvation, they are only acting according to human nature.

Seeing these things, one may say my beliefs are pessimistic even though I am simply being a realist. Nonetheless, they may choose to believe in a god for false hope. I believe this quote fits a person who believes in God quite well: "Where ignorance is bliss, tis folly to be wise"
