Best Android phone available today?

It seems that they have new phones coming out almost weekly. I would like to buy something this week and I am hoping for 2.2 and a front facing camera. And it has to be unlockable GSM as I would use it on Fido/Rogers in Canada. Are there any other features I might be looking for that aren't standard? It seems that any phone with the above would have:
GPS
Bluetooth
Speakerphone
touchscreen
wifi/hotspot/tethering capability
accelerometer
good camera and video camera with a flash on the back

I would prefer a real keyboard since I'm switching from a blackberry and I HATE typing on my wife's Iphone.
maybe we can keep this thread going even after I purchase as they will be coming out with better phones in the holiday season

Suggestions? HTC? Samsung? Motorola? Anyone else?

I apologize if I was unclear. Can someone tell me which android phones meet my criteria? GSM, 2.2, and front facing camera. There shouldn't be too many. Once we know then we can compare those.
 
Samsung Epic 4G would make the cut and upgradeable to Froyo, but it is on Sprint. If Samsung made a GSM variant of that, you should be good to go.

My suggestion is a couple things - Get an iPhone 4. Seems to meet all your demands except slide-out QWERTY and Android. Don't worry about the Antennagate or proximity until you try it out yourself. Or wait until we see the other manufacturers' holiday lineup. This might not be the right time to get an Android with those needs just yet.

You should go on GSMArena. In the search, there is a filter there. Very rare to find an Android with a combination of a Froyo + front facing camera + QWERTY.
 
The international generic Samsung Galaxy S all have front facing cameras. Set at Android 2.1, the story goes they may start getting Android 2.2 updates starting September 23. These phones are GSM only.
 
Well the OP is from canada from what it looks like above his post count... so the Bell Vibrant is the same as the international Galaxy S so it would work out fine, and the Epic 4G is a no go in canada so thats out.
 
Thanks for all the suggestions. My wife has an Iphone and I can't stand the keyboard. I am switching from a Blackberry and I am hoping to end up with another QWERTY keyboard. The Torch seems to be a big disappointment so please don't suggest it. I am in Canada but I am happy to purchase on ebay from anywhere. I want 2.2 because it seems to be much faster according to what I've read online. I would assume that phones on 2.1 should be able to upgrade soon. I have tried a few online search/comparison tools but none seem to have the front facing camera. I realize that I'll have more options if I wait for the holiday season but it seems that new Android phones come out every month so I have to stop somewhere and buy the best available. Does anyone know if the Samsung Vibrant from Bell is unlockable? I am told Bell Samsungs are difficult. I hope to stop in a Bell store today and try one out.

Do you really need the front camera? If not the new HTC Desire Z, just announced yesterday, will fit right up to your billing.
 
Okay just went to Rogers, Telus, and Bell stores. There is no phone in Canada other than the Iphone 4 which has front camera, including the Vibrant. Are there any Android phones currently available currently in the states or elsewhere with this camera? And possibly a Qwerty keyboard?
 
You're right...salespeople. They said that they don't have them in yet and they're back ordered for at least two weeks. But she actually showed me a phone...obviously not the one on the website.
 
I have an important question. I would like to know what prepaid phone service has a fairly priced droid with a good unlimited plan between $40-$60 a month? Any help would be much appreciated! And yes I already know Metro is supposedly going to have a droid sometime Idk when the heck they will though so anyone else besides them.
