Best and Worst Voice Recasts in Animation History

Yeah. Marsden replaced Dana Hill as the voice of Max on 'Goof Troop,' I mean after the series was cancelled, but in the later series. I liked Dana as Max. Of course, she was deceased, so a recast was necessary at the time.
 
Has this been mentioned, yet? For the 12th season of The Superfriends in 1984, Olan Soule changed roles in the program(he was originally Batman, from 1973 to 1984), taking the role of Prof. Martin Stein, while giving way to Adam West for the role of Batman(Adam also played Batman in the live-action ABC program in the late 1960's as well as in Filmation's The New Adventures of Batman on CBS in the late 1970's).
 
No range? The guy who can bounce between the likes of Tino Tonitini, Haku, Felix Renton and Chase Young has no range?

I wouldn't exactly file this under "Worst", but I wasn't exactly thrilled with Jim Cummings' replacing of Paul Winchell as the voice of Zummi in Disney's Adventures of the Gummi Bears. No offense to Mr. Cummings intended, but it just didn't sound right to me; still doesn't.

I was never a fan of Candi Milo's interpretation of Dexter. Compared to Christine Cavanaugh, she sounded way too high pitched and the accent felt a lot more false. It's a shame Cavanaugh retired since Milo continues to voice Dexter in promotional stuff.

Sirena Irwin's Mrs. Krabs is also a huge unfavorite of mine. She sounds like the typical grandmother now, as opposed to the pre-movie version f her that just sounded like Mr. Krabs disguising his voice.
 
Would you say the same thing about Jim Cummings taking over for Paul Winchell as Tigger of Winnie the Pooh fame and later, Dick Dastardly(for the Wacky Races video games)?
 
To back up what Alpha said, listen to Wolverine (from Wolverine and The X-Men), Green Goblin (from The Spectacular Spider-Man) and Yakky Doodle (from Harvey Birdman Attourney At Law).

The only way you can tell that Steven Blum voiced those characters is the internet sites providing credit info. While Jason can fit many personalities, the minute you hear his character speak, you know who's voicing the character.
 
I hated that recast, too. The new voice for Robot Jones was definitely interesting to see, but every time I watched it after the recast I would always hope they'd bring the old voice back. :sad:

Another recast that I really like is the Pokemon recast. To me, the original cast was really lacking with their roles by the time the recast came around and I always dreaded watching the later seasons of the 4kids dubbed Pokemon. The new people from the recast brought a little more life into the Pokemon series; that and the writing for the Battle Frontier arc is why it's one of my favorite season of Pokemon now (that I've seen). To me, I never minded the new Ash's VA as well as Meowth's VA. Jame's new VA is okay/great at times, but Jesse's new VA is just... uh, so-so? It's not bad, but I sort of agree with other people when they say her voice is a little too high pitched at times. But after... however many years Pokemon first hit the TV screen- when the recast happened- I finally got back into watching Pokemon.
 
They probably didn't because I bet the Fairly OddParents creators were of the attitude "These are Chester and A.J.'s voices from now on, as far as the characters are concerned they always sounded like this", or they weren't clever enough to lampshade it.

But yeah, that was one reason I got turned off to that show.
 
I agree with you. I hated his peformance. He turned out too edgy and unappealing unlike Jaleel White who make a decent and fresh Sonic in the 1990's.

I nominate also in the worst Greg Burson who voiced Yogi Bear in the 1988's Yogi Bear Show due to the Daws Butler's death. We already having a disucssion on GAC forums.

My best goes to Joe Alaskeey who give a top-notch performance for Bugs Bunny since Mel Blanc's death. Those peoples seems to really capture the spirit of the original cartoons.
 
Funny, I always preferred Berger. I always thought he had a nice deadpan thing going on, similar to his work as Cornfed Pig on "Duckman".
 
One of the worst to me anyway is Paul Williams being replaced by David Ogden Stiers as the Penguin in Mystery of the Batwoman. It wasn't that Stiers wasn't a good Penguin, it's just that Williams OWNED that role for that series about as much as Hamill owned the Joker.
 
It's not the absolute worst or anything, but I still can't get over the whole Pokemon recast. Tried for like 100 episodes, but still couldn't do it. Maybe it was also the actual episodes that were tuning me out though.
 
David Ogden Stiers, a.k.a. Charles Winchester of M*A*S*H fame as the Penguin? I didn't realize that, but you're right, for all intents and purposes, Paul Williams IS the Penguin, just as Mark Hamill IS the Joker.
 
Does anybody know why Paul Williams wasn't brought back for Mystery of the Batwoman? I don't think that they would be foolish enough to get somebody other than Mark Hamill to play the Joker (he's way too "iconic" and disguishable by now) in anything pertaining to the DCAU.
 
My guess is if Paul Winchell retired before The Smurfs ended in 1990, if Gargamel was around, he would then be voiced by Jim Cummings. Speaking of Paul, he did voice a character in a Screwball Squirrel cartoon on Droopy, Master Detective in 1993.
