Best and worst performances in a film?

I was going to title this thread 'Worst performances', but thought it's only fair to balance it out a little.

I think I'm going to be quite predictable here and say Al Pacino in The Godfather as one of the best performances I've seen in a film, althought I might chime in with more later as I think of them, if this thread gets going that is!

As for worst performance?
Toss up between Uma Thurman and Alicia Silverstone in Batman and Robin.

Best:
3 Heath Ledger roles stick out for me; as The Joker in The Dark Knight, as Dan in Candy, and as Ennis Del Maar (spelling?) in Brokeback Mountain.
Cameron Diaz in My Sisters Keeper.
James Franco in Pineapple Express.
I though Anne Hathaway was amazing in The Princess Diaries (the first film especially), and The Devil Wears Prada.

Worst:
Call me biased, but the cast of Mammia Mia. Awful film, shame as I had high hopes for it really, as skeptical as I was.

Best

Nicole Kidman in The Others
Heath Ledger - The Joker
Anna Hathaway in Princess and Prada (she is one of the most beautiful women alive i must add)

Worst

Jennifer Garner in Juno (i loved her in Alias but her acting was so weak in this movie)
Robert Pattinson - Twilight
Jensen Ackles in My bloody valentine

There's too many choices for best so i'll just do worst and there is a few

Sofia Copolla in The Godfather 3!
Nick Cannon in Day Of The Dead (Remake) although that wasn't hard!
Russell Brand in Forgetting Sarah Marshall  Brilliant movie but he was dreadful!

Best: Ledger as The Joker, Johnny Depp as Edward ScissorhanRAB, Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump, Alan Rickman as The Sherrif Of Nottingham.

Worst: Christian Bale in just about every role he has played including Batman, Everybody that was in Showgirls, Christian Slatter in everything he has done other than Broken Arrow, William Shatner whilst iconic as Kirk is possibly the worst actor of all time.

Kate HuRABon was absolutely brilliant in Almost Famous, but has never reached that level again in her subsequent roles. A shame.

I also loved Angelina Jolie in Girl Interrupted

Worst - Katie Holmes in Batman. Completely out of her depth.

Best - Heath Ledger as the Joker. Clive Owen in Closer. Johnny Depp in pretty much everything he does - he's an amazing character actor.

Its so funny how different people can see things, re, your Jennifer Garner one, she was the only person that felt realistic to me in that film, I thought she was great in it.

I agree on Robert Pattinson though, in fact I just think Twilight was so dire.

Hmmm need to think a little longer on my picks before posting.

best: billy dee williams as "lando" in "the empire strikes back" - the coolest brother this side of Bespin

worst: marlon brando in "the godfather" - i didn't understand a word
