Here you can list what is the Best and Worst animated Sequel .. but remember to .. EXPLAIN YOUR CHOICES!!

best theatrical Sequel : Toy Story 2. much better than the original . I liked Jesse's backstory and Woody's thinking about being a collector's item in Japan.

Best Direct-to-Video: Lion King 1 1/2 & Bambi II good story and animation while TLK 1 1/2 is a good parody of TLK . Bambi II is what a serious TLK sequel/pre-quel/whatever-quel could've been..

Worst Theatrical sequel : All Dogs go To Heaven 2: the story and Characters were so warped you don't recognize thjem.. and I wish they stayed in New Orleans instead of San Fransico.. but oh well...

Worst Direct-To-Video: Secret of Nimh: the original might have been too mature for some audiences but the sequel is so kiddified even Pre-schoolers would get bored *sigh*

For the most part,I prefer the original films to their sequels,However there are a few theatrically released sequels I felt were better than the original like...

Toy Story 2....I dunno,I guess I just liked the storyline better, with all of Andy's toys having to come to Woody's rescue from a greedy toy collector...

The Rescuers Down Under....I loved the scenes of the Australian outback, the animation of Marahute the golden eagle, and the subplot about Bernard's attempts to propose to Miss Bianca...

Shrek 2...I loved Puss in Boots, and the movie as a whole just made me laugh more than the original...

I don't really want to say Shrek 3 was a bad sequal. it was alright. It really should have been the last of the trilogy. But since they're planning like 20 more, I'm just going to wait it out.

I will say TS2 was much much bigger and grander than the original. Not only with the technological advancements, but they have a much better adventure. And I loved the subplot about Woody's origin.

I wish the end was different, though. They could have revealed at the end the Jessie doll belonged to Andy's mother. But they sadly didn't (unless they originally planned on it, but it never left the storyboard stage... I gotta get those DVD's).

I also enjoyed Goofy Movie 2, but the constant plugging for Disney's ESPN Extreme games kinda made it sag for me. I did like Seeing Max and Peej going to college.

Personally, I liked An Extremely Goofy Movie more than the original. I didn't mind the X-treme Games stuff; at least it was better handled than in that "Kim Possible" episode, "Triple S". Pity that this is a) forgotten, in spite of its regular airings on the Disney Channel and Toon Disney and b) lumped in with the cash grab sequels to decades-old films.

Me too. The Outback backgrounds were much more appealing and breathtaking to look at than the murky swamps of the original, and the animation was overall better and cleaner (no doubt due to abandoning the Xerox process entirely, I imagine).

As for others, Aladdin and the King of Thieves wasn't better than Aladdin but definitely better than Return of Jafar, helped by Robin Williams' presence again but also more WD Australia animation and a better story.

Toy Story 2 is generally considered better than Toy Story 1, and I agree. Woody's dilemma about whether to relive his glory days forever or stay with his friends was a good one, and Wayne Knight was a memorable nerdy villain.

I thought Shrek 2 was an outstanding sequel, far better than the original (not to say it wasn't good), on the other hand, the sequel to Emperor's New Groove was an absolute disaster...

As for me, I would not consider "Shrek 2", "Shrek 3", or any of the non-related sequels to do better or do worse than the first "Shrek". They are good sequels, though not as good, but all three are good movies. I personally think they all compliment each other by all being part of a trilogy.

As for the worst sequels of all time, almost every Disney sequel. The only two exceptions I have with this are: "the Lion King 1 1/2" and "the Rescuers Down Under." I like "the Lion King" and "the Rescuers", and think they are great movies, but these sequels are in their own ways just as good.

As for the best sequels of all time. I have never really been a fan of "Toy Story 2", but I have always (always!) loved "an American Tail: Fievel Goes West", I personally think this is one of the best sequels of all time in movie history. "Fievel Goes the West" all the way!

Looneytunes (Disneytoons)

For a theatrical sequel, Toy Story 2 hands down. I remember loving it when I was watching it when it came out to theatrers. I definitely thought that the storyline was improved over the first movie, which was still great, and I loved the emotions Woody was feeling as he feared over losing Andy forever.

As for a direct-to-DVD sequel, I would have to say the Lion King 2. While it didn't have the same feeling to it as the original Lion King did, the movie did quite well with its own story. I consider it to be one of Disney's better DVD sequels. The voice acting was great and I thought that it was written quite nicely. They also put much more effort into the songs in the movie than many of their other sequels.

I agree. Aladdin and the King of Thieves was a great movie and much better than the Return of Jafar. It was a good movie to end with after the television series. I think the Return of Jafar would have worked better if it was the series premier instead of the movie that started the series. Robin Williams' return in the King of Thieves was one of the highlights of the movie, as well as Aladdin meeting and connecting with his father before he got married to Jasmine.

In terms of worst sequels, I have a couple in mind that I'll list here.

Mulan 2: I enjoyed the first Mulan movie. I loved how Mulan wasn't like all of the other girls and chose to fight in the war to save her father. I also loved how she fought more with her mind, rather than with weapons. By the end, she brings honor to her family and she knows her true strength. This movie, on the other hand, felt like a complete waste of time. The story itself was kind of weak and all of the songs felt like cheep versions of the songs from the original movie. The fact that the three soliders from the movie fell in love with and got to marry the emperor's daughters was kind of lame too. The only parts of the movie that I would consider even good were when Shang let go of Mulan in order to save her from falling off the bridge, when Mulan was willing to sacrifice herself to the other emperor's son so that the rest of her friends could live in happiness, and when Mushu performed the marriage ceremony for Mulan and Shang. This just felt like a seriously unneeded sequel.

Pocahontas 2: I enjoyed watching the first Pocahontas movie as well. I didn't like how Pocahontas was turned into a Native American Barbie and John Smith into Ken, but I did enjoy much of the music, the message and the art work in the movie. I also liked how it did have a bitter sweet ending to it, which most of Disney's movies don't have that often. As for this sequel, it also felt unnecessiary. I just didn't like how the story flowed and how most of the songs were weak, especially in comparsion with the original songs. The story itself didn't match up with the original as well. The way Ratcliff knew Pocahontas felt weird because of how they didn't really interact at all during the first movie.

Some of the few up sides to the movie was how it was more historically accruate with who Pocahontas ends up marrying, a nice ending song during the criedts, the only good song in the whole movie, and a disclaimer that said that the movie was a fictious accound of her real life and go to a library to read about the actual Pocahontas. I'm not sure if they even had that in the first movie, but I'm glad that they did it for this sequel.

TS2 was better than the first movie, but I have to say that The Fox and the Hound 2 sucked. It was a stupid, badly done re-telling of the first witha few changes. The only thing that movie had above the oringal was probably the animation, but even that was a bit lacking.

I actually liked Pocahontas 2,even though it's nowhere near as great as the original {which remains one of my favorite animated films}....I liked the songs, that Pocahontas actually didn't end up with John Smith{adding just a touch of the real life story to the Disney version},and the character of John Rowlfe {Billy Zane should really do more voice-over work....I also love his performance as Ansem in the original Kingdom Hearts video game}...

For the most part,I tolerate the Disney sequels....while there's yet to be one as good as the original film that inspired it,for the most part, they aren't that bad....I also enjoyed The Lion King 2,though I liked it more for the songs than the story...

I wish Disney would keep with historical accuracy...but if they did, it would have either a high-PG or low PG-13 rating. They got the Pocahontas story all wrong.

Pocahontas 2 isn't any where near as bad as Mulan 2, but it just didn't have that same feeling from the original movie. Pocahontas ending up with John Rowlfe was one of the highlights of the film since it does add that historical touch to their version. Even though I felt a bit sad when I first saw the sequel since she had touching moments with John Smith in the first movie, despite being historically innacurate.

I agree with you on the Disney sequels. I've seen a few of them and I can tolerate them. The only exceptions are these two movies since I really felt that they were either a waste of time, mainly with Mulan 2, or it just didn't feel good enough to me, which was the case for me with Pocahontas 2. I rarely complain about the sequels, especially since for the most part they aren't that bad, but these were the only sequels that I didn't like that came to mind.

That's probably one reason why they didn't have that much historical accuracy with the Pocahontas story. Even though I can't see a historical accurate story of Pocahontas being much over a PG rating. A PG-13 rating seems a bit high to me. I'm pretty sure that there is a historical accurate movie/documentary of the Pocahontas story. Anyway, I remember reading that they also wanted to do a Romeo and Juliet type of story at the time before making Pocahontas, so that's what they chose to do with the movie. Disney, rightfully so, did receive criticism about the innacurate history, as well as the presentation of Native Americans in the film. The scene in Peter Pan with the Native Americans was a worse presentation of Native Americans though, in my opinion. Despite that, I still enjoy the movie to this day with its beautiful art, music and story. I am still glad that they mentioned at the end of the sequel to go and read up about the historical Pocahontas if the kids were interested. I don't think that was in the first movie and that probably would have been better for them in the end.

I also remember another great animated sequel. Balto 2: Wolf Quest. I absolutely love the first Balto movie. The story was great, the voices were wonderful, Balto having to embrace his wolf side in order to save the day and the ending song is beautiful. The sequel for the first Balto movie did not disappoint me, even though it isn't as good as the first movie. It was great to see Balto and Jenna with their pups, they were so darn cute, and it was interesting to see that only Aleu looked like a wolf. I could understand deeply about her need to find out where she belongs and who she really is, despite the fact that I felt more connected with Balto in the first movie about being outcasted and choosing to help those in need regardless of how they treated him. The songs were great and I always get a lump in my throat when Aleu goes off with the wolf pack, finally knowing where she truly belongs.

yeah, I don't think families would take to John Rolfe being a Tobacco Farmer ,despite being accurate.

an interesting find on Wikipedia says this about Rolfe's marriage to Pocahontas...

"He was a pious man who agonized over the potential and moral reprecussions of a marrying a heathen"

sheesh, maybe she was better off single.. seems all her boyfriends were sleezy:sad:

I suppose Pocahontas II does get points for not having a child character in the film (namely Thomas Rolfe. who would be downright annoying anyway).

and about the more information in your library. I guess they don't wan't to mention on they way back to America she died of disease or whatever.

should've callled it Pocahontas II:damage control ..

I'm personally of the opinion that you shouldn't change history to make it "kid-friendly", and that it was irresponsible of Disney to sell Pocahontas as "based on a true story" when the true story was absolutely nothing like the movie.
