Best air cleaners?

I have an air cleaner but I don't think its doing the job!

It seems like every website I go to has a different "best" cleaner.

I was looking at an Oransi v-hepa air purifier, because it got some good reviews and was somewhat reasonably priced, but then I got worried because on some of the allergy sites, I don't even see it listed as a choice.

Any ideas, feedback would be appreciated!
 
I have a two story house and have central air and attached to the central air unit is a heppa filter. I do not know the name of the brand, but can tell you that when the filter is cleaned it is filthy due to the air quality. Every six months, I have had a man come in an clean all the pipes to the unit, but am not too sure I will use that man because I read GREAT reviews on the cleaning done by Sears. You may want to all the and have them give you a suggestion.
 
I actually meant a room purifier. I don't have central air, unfortunately, although I'm looking into it again. When I first got estimates, they said that the duct work would have to be "raised" or it might freeze up. I'd never heard of a house with forced air heat that couldn't get central air. I've been making do with window units, but I'm pretty sure they just let a bunch of pollen in the house!!!!!!! I am so much sicker with my allergies since anaphylactic shock, that I'm looking into central air again.

Interesting that you mention sears for duct cleaning. I am planning to invest in that as well (ALL the duct work in the house). But there is a local company that I may hire for that.

If you should be having allergy shots and a good allergist has told you so, please do not give up on them. It takes time for them to work. I had received them for years and then moved. When I moved to my present location, I went to another allergist, who ran tests. He told me I did not have to have the injections, so took me off them. He misdiagnosed me and made my life so miserable that I could not think. I went back to the original allergist and he said that the joker who had treated me, had run the wrong tests!! It has taken me well over one year to get back on my feet. Those injections take time to work, so please be patient. About the ducts and cleaners: I had the Sears men here today and was VERY impressed. They have to correct some duct work and then will clean. It will be more costly than I thought, but well worth it. The reason I tell you this is because I had a small company do it before and nothing was ever said about the pipes being bad. I have NO connection to Sears, but do believe they back up their work. So, this is just a suggestion. Good luck and please keep me posted.
 
Hi, by far the best solution I have found is a really neat liquid ioniser which knocks out allergens in the air.
It has made an unbelieveable difference to me and I have recommended it to my frienRAB who have had similar success, 100x better than air filters.
It's called Cleanaer and you can find it on the web.
 
There really isn't a "best" air cleaner, any true HEPA filter will do the trick. Your best bet is probably to go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy one of the Honeywell HEPA room air filters (I think Costco sells them too). They're not too loud, are relatively inexpensive, and tend to last for a couple of years.

HEPA is a consistent standard so all of the claims about one being better than another are just marketing hype that won't make much difference once you get it home (but may add to the cost).
 
I know I need the allergy shots, but I could not face going through the anaphylactic shock again. If had just been a three day ordeal, that would be one thing, but it started off these horrible vertigo flare ups that went on for almost 6 months. Usually, I do "ok" during tree season, but I am horribly sick right now. I think the anaphylaxis made everything worse.
