I know there was a thread somewhere for this but I cannot find it. Maybe it got lost with the forum renovations going on?

Anyway I just finished Berserk and really enjoyed it. Not just a mindless splatterfest but actually made me feel something for some of the characters, (or maybe just Caska nude ). For me it was the type of series that while I was watching an episode I was really into it but it didn't have me racing for the computer when I got home to watch the next one, if that makes sense. But all up pretty good.

Until the last 2 episodes. That has to be the worst ending to any anime that I have ever seen. It was like watching a different series altogether. Yes it tied up some of the loose enRAB from the start but to me it ended up asking more questions than it answered. After the end it left me pretty disappointed. Everything up until those last 2 episodes was really good though which just made the disappointment worse.

Well that's what I thought anyway.

Yeah, the anime doesn't get too far into it before the last couple episodes, but if you read the manga, you'll see that the last two episodes most closely reserable the world that this story is set in.

Now that sounRAB interesting. If I read the manga should I start from the beginning as the anime missed important bits? Or is it possible to start from the rough vicinity of the ending of the anime and catch on???

It seems the manga will have to be read if I want closure on this.

Read from the start, not only because of important tidbits that got cut, but because you'll enjoy what you sort of already saw even more.

Note: The first three volumes start after the Hawks story like the first aniem episode, They're a little tedious but don't worry.

Well this is shaping up to be the first Manga series I read so I do hope it will be awesome. IMO the Anime had the potential to be awesome but just fell short of the mark.

You should be more than satisfied, then. In my opinion, that potential was met and exceeded by the manga. My only disappointments are with the flaky and unpredictable releases of new chapters by the creator, but the quality of them make up for it. There is a good deal of content to catch up on, so it will be a little while before you have to worry about that.

Something that has always bothered me about Berserk. As great as it is, the world created is so very depressing. There doesn't to be any sort of balance between good and evil. There is only evil and it reigns supreme in what you'll learn is named the God Hand. I'm not going to give too much away, but that always bothered me. I like a true balance or at least something that shows that there is some good out there that's battling against the evil. Because when you read the manga you'll see it as one man against impossible odRAB. It's almost disheartening.

I thought the depressing world is partly what made Berserk such a good anime (no emo). It takes place in the dark ages which was, in reality an extremely depressing time with very few people actually fighting for good. In other worRAB, there was no balance between good and bad. I haven't read the anime, but the supreme evil demons seem to reflect the despair of the times.

As for Berserk's ending... The first episode seems to give you an idea of things to come and it too has NOTHING to do with the series. I thought the ending was way too abrupt, but I didn't think it was all that bad because it managed to sum up a lot of the philosophical ideas that were developed throughout the series.

"The manga is better" can be said about many series. However it is never more true than with Berserk. I read the manga before I saw the anime, which was probably the wrong order, since I liked the manga much more and the anime kinda ticked me off with missing characters/stories etc. Not to mention I thought the fights in the anime were kinda frustrating.

I have to agree with most everyone here. The anime falls short of the manga by far, but by no means is the anime bad. I enjoyed it alot. But it will never reach up to the status of the manga in my mind. Too much left out of the anime.

Berserk takes place during the late middle ages if anything. There's alot of proto-renaissance clothing and big sea traveling ships. And the Kushans reserable the Ottomans.

I loved the anime but wanted more about the world with demons. Based on what most people are saying I started reading the manga. I'm just on chapter 7 so I have a long way to go but I am enjoying it so far. I've seen a chapter 301 - is the manga still going?
