I felt the movie was very underwhelming and a huge let-down.
The CGI was impressive in some points, and average the rest of the time.
The story was good, but felt really dragged out to me and didn't get really good until the end.
The voice acting wasn't that great either, feeling very emotionless most of the time.
In fact, most of the characters felt that way. Nearly all of them for 90% of the movie had the same bored look upon their faces, and rarely ever showed any warmth at all.

Haha, I wouldn't call them the worst ever. But I certainly didn't call them the best. I understand your point, and I was only referring to all of the nifty 3-D stuff, which overshadowed the plot, in my opinion. I haven't seen that many movies in 3-D, so I found that aspect of the effects impressive.

See: The Uncanny Valley Effect. This movie pretty much screams it.
Also since you mentioned Polar Express, here's another very interesting article where an animator discusses the Effect on that movie, and actually applies Photoshop to several frames of the movie to try to "fix" the Effect (and does a pretty good job):

Are you kidding?
You can SEE the Anthony Hopkins in Anthony Hopkins' character. Sure, animation-wise it's not all that great, what with the slow and robotic movement, but they LOOK real.

The stills look great for the movie, but if "animation-wise it's not all that great," then that means that they don't look real by definition to me. Computers have been able to do near-perfect 3-D still renderings of people's faces for some time now, so the achievement that Beowulf achieves in the film just isn't that impressive. I think too many of the models in the movie are about as real as the Bill Clinton audio-animatronic mannequin is in Disney's Hall of Presidents. Even though they're obviously not real people, I have a much easier time believing in the reality of anybody in Ratatouille or Avatar (the TV show, not James Cameron's upcoming movie) over the characters in Beowulf.

Yes, because The Simpsons and South Park appeal to adults because of their incredible amount of detail, real movements, and real textures. You have GOT to be kidding me. If this was truly the impetus to create the performance-capture CGI technology, then I think it's just built on ideas that are just flat-out, provably wrong, and if anything reading this makes me like the movie even less.
