being in water would be dangerous if lightning strikes--water conducts electricity

being in the club house would be dangerous--it is probably in a tree, and being in a high place is dangerous, because lightning will strike the high point in an area
 
As Ben jumped on his bike and headed for the freshwater lake, his mother called after him. “Don’t swim and go into the club house if we have an electrical storm-it looks threatening.”
This was a valid request. Why?
