No by the time the Executive Office called me back I had changed to the new HD theme pack. That's when I called the retention dept. Bell is playing some kind of game.

I currently am not under contract with Bell TV, and I wanted to know if I can choose a bundle package (Digital Essentials) but not sign another contact since I am paying the bill month to month right now.

But I guess if I did sign a contract I could possibly rent another receiver
(4100's) and not have to pay $75 for someone to come out and plug in the cable at the back. (Since I wanted to rent another receiver but they said it would cost 75 bucks for someone to come and hook it up for me.

Anyways I just wanted a little feedback on this and see what the best option is...

So I'm looking at more than $50 after tax. Ouch, sounds like Shaw have a better deal here. Unless Bell have something that Shaw doesn't have then I don't see any reason to go with Bell over Shaw.

so does that mean that shwhd, dischd, tlchd, ect would still be there.i was under the assumption that i would lose half my hd.

Shouldn't you still get TLC in HD now if you are paying for it in SD? Also I noticed I can't see it listed on 826 when looking at all channels in the guide. I should be able to see it in red at least?

The normal charge for any additional or replacement receiver is indeed $75.

To avoid this charge, why not buy a 4100 for about $99 and instal it yourself. You said that "I could possibly rent another receiver" which implies you are already renting one, so it would be a simple remove your rented box and replace with the purchased one. Then call Bell, tell them you want to ship back your Rental receiver and activate the new one. Saving you the rental cost and you could then chage your programming as well.

A retention deal is usual a percentage off you monthly bill regardless of your subscribed package.

Interesting, so here's what happened in my experience...
I was reading through this thread and saw about National Geographic in HD which interested my wife immensely, and that theme also has Showcase and TLC, so I went online and sure enough the only choice would have been to uncheck my current (legacy $10 HD) subscription. So, I called Bell instead. The young man wanted me to switch to an $85 package where I could have all the HD themes and get one more SD Theme package, but this would have been $14 more than the $76 i am currently paying (as it did not include a couple of picks I do separately - TBS, etc.) - and all I wanted was the extra HD theme. I asked if I could not just pay the extra $5 and he had to "clear" that one with someone, but came back and said yes, I could. Short story - I got the extra HD Theme pack with NG HD, TLC HD and Showcase HD for the extra $5. a month and keep all my other programming.

I have to say that I was completely turned down by their new advertising. I wanted to switch from SC to BTV, but I have no clue how much I would have to pay to keep something similar to my current programming. The PDF brochure doesn't have pricing anymore and the web site doesn't give more info either, except the few "popular" packages they advertise with deep discounts that include subscribing to Bell local phone, even though I select Manitoba and there is no Bell local phone available around here ! I hope they fix that later, so that I can get a better idea. I'm not the kind of person who subscribes without knowing how much will get charged and how the programming works.

RDS HD comes in Le Monde En Francais, i.e. you dont need any HD themes to receive RDS HD. The same with all the other French HD channels, VRAK HD etc....

Gone for me, too! Thought this one was supposed to be in for legacy $10 packages, but I guess not. I have TLC SD (and Show SD, but that's another thread)...

Screwed by Bell again...

You're the one that brought it up and there is no way you will get 82W in Ft. Lauderdale, believe what you may. Now back to your topic...

Is this going to apply if you get NG SD as well for the HD version?

Are we all going to have to call to get this cleared up I wonder...

A 6131 would be a better deal in the long run and it has the PVR option. There is a sale price on them posted in the Digital Deals section. The new receiver can replace the rental and the rental sent back with no installation charge. Any installation for an extra receiver will cost $75, owned or rented. You could also do your own installation but at $75, it's often not worth it. You may also able to get a free HD upgrade with the 6131.

I finally made the switch to the new HD Channels. Really wanted TLCHD - since that's the only channel with new shows on right now.

Switched out the old News & Learning also so I could get Animal Planet. Kept the old Sports1 - don't want to pay extra there for channels I don't watch. I was happy they didn't say I had to switch out that one too.

I went with the 4 good HD theme packs - skipped out on the oasis, etc one. Have never watched those channels.

Also - with the switch, I noticed I got the US East Feed back on my non-HD receiver. That was nice. Overall - ended up spending $2 more - but that was only because we wanted the National Geographic channel so had to add N&L 2.

It was a pretty easy phone call, probably helped that I knew exactly what I wanted added/removed. It was the first time I've had to call Bell probably since I originally got an HD receiver.
