Wow, all these posts but it's really pretty simple.

The Quebec Basic is no longer offered in French or English versions on the new platform.

There is now only one 'bilingual' Basic for new customers in Quebec and it is 25$ (15$ after bundle).

In a nutshell, it's the same as the old digital standard + 'Le Monde en Francais' but it does not include the american networks and it does not include some of extra channels Bell threw into Digital Standard (W, Treehouse etc).

I call it a 'skinny' basic.

But what's cool is, if you don't really want the american networks in SD (the HD versions are included in basic for free), you now gain 8 extra picks (ABC, NBC, PBS & FOX x both feeds) in your A LA CARTE and save around 10$ compared to the old Digital Standard pricing.

The brochure really spells it out clearly for everyone.

And for the record, I would be really pi**ed if this was only available in another province. Hopefully, BellTV is only testing it out in QC before blowing it out nationally.

Must be an error in the Press Release.

Basic is 25$.

15$ after the bundle discount.

The brochure and my first invoice on the new platform confirm this.

$25 is the price after bundle discount ($5) and first year discount ($5) which may not apply to all customers. I always use the base price.

So I'm wondering if you can get the basic package for 15$ and then only add the extra HD theme packs and call it a day.

Oh look, some competition (Videotron) and we have pricing only available in a certain province where said competition exists (Quebec).

Why can't they just have the same prices across the country?

Have to disagree here.

Website clearly shows 25$ base with 10$ bundle discount (not 5$ and a 5$ 1-year additional discount).

Here are the details from the website.

This was also confirmed by the CSR when I switched over to the new platform.

Here is a copy of the brochure that also shows the 15$ net price.

Got my online invoice today. Basic is 25$, Bundle discount 10$ = 15$.

Hope this is clear for everyone.

But you still have to subscribe to TSN/TSN2 to get their HD Simulcast channels.

Now, I wish that Bell TV can offer a Basic Package in Western Canada that is competitive with Shaw and includes both TSN/TSN2 and Rogers SportsNet.

Quote:So Base price (without discounts) is $35 in Ontario and $25 in Quebec.

Is that legal? ____________

Sometimes this site is so funny when you read all the discussion. Is it legal to have cheaper prices in Quebec but then another group is celebrating the special Ontario price from Shaw!!!:p:rolleyes:

Agree with Panache70.

Regular price is 25$. There is no special discount for first year, etc.

It's 15$ when you remove the 10$ bundle discount for customers with a HD PVR.

Says Digital Basic from $30 per month.

Also note that in Panache, the $15 is IN THE BELL BUNDLE.

What this also highlights is that Bell appears to price Basic differently in different provinces.

It's way too far in to my nightshift to try and figure this out on my own, but are you getting the same thing in Quebec for $25 that you are in Ontario for $35? (ie: are they the same channels and/or is Quebec getting the same channels as well as extra channels for the same price?)

Assuming they are different/fewer channels being offered with the $25 plan in Quebec, my only beef with this is that it's only offered in Quebec. Plenty of folks in New Brunswick, Ontario and Nova Scotia that have French as their primary language and I'm sure would want to take advantage of this.

Simply because Bell competes in both provinces for phone, TV and Internet but with different providers... If they can get away with charging more in Ontario because Rogers' prices are higher then you get bet your last dollar that they will. It's just business... Note that the opposite could also happen...

Before I switched to the A LA CARTE base programming I had:

$34.00 - Digital Standard
$08.00 - 1 SD Theme - Variety 1
$02.50 - Pick 'n Play - Much Vibe
$05.00 - 1 HD Theme - More Variety
$01.00 - HD U.S. Time Shifting
$20.00 - AOV
$03.00 - Digital Service Fee

-$10.00 - Bundle Credit

= $63.50 before tax

I also have 30% Off, but I'll ignore it since it applies to my new A LA Carte programming also. A LA CARTE Programming I choose is as follows:

$25.00 - The Basics
$15.00 - 15 A LA CARTE
$05.00 - The Favourites
$05.00 - 1 HD Theme - More Variety
$01.00 - HD U.S. Time Shifting
$20.00 - AOV
$03.00 - Digital Service Fee

-$10.00 - Bundle Credit

= $64.00 before tax

yes, I'm now paying 50 cents more (but also receiving more channels than I did before). But after reading this thread I have a question.

1) After choosing "The Basics" for $25, am I able to pick channels for $2/each instead of going straight 15 for $15??

2) Am I able to grab "The Favourites" without having the $15 A LA CARTE

Reason being is after choosing about 5 or 6 Channels for the 15 A LA CARTE, I found myself choosing 10 channels I didn't care to watch just to fill up. Ideally, I would like to have the following:

$25.00 - The Basics
$10.00 - 5 Channels from the A LA CARTE section at $2/each
$05.00 - The Favourites
...
...

Total = $59.00 (saving myself the extra $5)

"Is this possible?"

I'd say it's quite legal.

Just look at gas prices from Petro Canada, Esso etc...In Quebec we're paying around 1.06$/l right now, and you can drive across the border into Ontario and easily pay 0.10$/l less from the same providers, and up to 0.20$/l less in Alberta from the same providers.

Different market, different prices.

It's not the same package as Digital Standard plus le monde en francais.

It's essentially Base Numerique plus the Partout Au Canada (English) channels, which is less channels than Digital Standard.

Promotions are always different based on area, competition, etc...

I could be mistaken but I think the bilingual/French and English language basic packages are different prices. Maybe that's the source of the discrepency.
